  3. I want a new guitar so I reach in the closet and grab an old guitar I've had for years and now I pretend it's a new guitar .... I thought about getting The New Spark Amp . Then I remembered to go to my closet and pull out my Yamaha THR 5 and Mini Katana ... I took all the money I would have spent on the Spark and took my dog to the vet , got him all his shots and licensed him . Then I bought a $ 60 dollar bag of Science Diet dog food just for him ... I thought about buying a new pedal just because I want a new pedal , so I walk over to my fire place and I look at the 5 brand new pedals I bought and I say even though I haven't touched them in months because I'm to lazy to set them up ...I still want a new pedal since I'm bored with knowing those 5 pedals are on my fireplace so I go and track down my former gigging pedal board and pull off one pedal from the board . I even used that one pedal for most of my guitar tones on my last few songs just by turning all the pretty little knobs until I found a sound I liked ... I wish this story had a happy ending but it doesn't .. You see all this musical productivity and extreme gear purchase frugality started to wear my out . I started to wish I had best friend of the female persuasion .... Then I realized I'll never get a girl anytime soon because I'm way to Cheap .....😘 Kenny

  4. A few years ago I decided to fast from buying Music products for one whole month, a Feb or March (so after the holiday rush). I made it through the month, but then ended up spending far more the next month catching up with sales that were still in effect/etc. I think it would be better for me to focus on really using the things I buy. Or even better, using the things I've already bought.

  5. I'm going to buy as much as I can throughout the year so as I can save BIG time when Black Friday/Cyber Monday etc come around.

  6. My worst purchases is when I buy some plugin that I already have but forgot to check my inventory. I seem to do that at least once a year. The (tell myself) upside is that it was an irresistible item at the time, twice.

  7. Having looked into my crystal ball (the standalone version not the VST), in 2021 I will be purchasing the following; Music Production Suite 5 (and then later 6) Komplete 14 Sampletank 5 Waves CLA Ring Ripper(the curry inspired, sphincter distortion emulator) Valhalla De-Verb Oeksound Grate (adds harmonics modelled on fingernails down a blackboard) The updated Air Music Production Suite (Hybrid 4, Xpand! 3, LoomIII, Strike 3.5 and Transfuser 1.02) and finally Spitfire "Amateur Dramatic Society - band and choir editions" (available with articulations for "out of tune" and "out of time")

  10. I'm going to commit new purchases to a $50/month limit (unused rollover allowed). That of course does not include upgrades. They will be limited to $150/month with no unused rollover.

  19. I was "pretty good" at that this year, hopefully 🤞, I will continue on that path.... t in the meantime I have an Amazon subscription, and I'm constantly running out; hence the "impulse" buys I'm guilty of...

  20. Absolutely! And with most people saying 2020 is a year to forget, we can 'forget' the guilt of buying them and just be pleasantly surprised by the cool new toy/s in the synth collection 😜

  28. I feel like this is not disimilar to the sampler FR...there are 2 different "requirements" that are getting conflated and confused. The existing Drum Maps in CbB are really "MIDI Output Mapping" - the fact that they can be used for drum mapping and drum note naming is almost coincidental - and as such (as @scook pointed out above) make sense to remain where they are, as part of the track settings. Now having their UI improved is a different matter and probably one where we would all agree that improvments could be made (we'd probably argue about how of course :-)). Remember that this feature comes from a time when multiple, external MIDI modules were often used to create a full drum kit (I had 2 Alesis D4s and a DM5 at one stage, so I've been there!), so is focused on that kind of setup. Then there's the new requirement (as I understand it) to be easily able to set the names of notes in the PRV for a single drum soft-synth (be that dedicated or sampler based). Mapping across ports and channels and notes is pretty much irrelevant and the Drum Maps are absolutely overkill - and not in the sensible place. So I think this FR should be thought of in this context and trying to link it in with Drum Maps is a red herring. Note that there is VST2 (and 3?) standard functionality for a soft-synth to expose note names to the host - very few do this, which is a pity (fxPansion BFD 1 and 2 do this - even for the DXi version of BFD 1! - as does Cakewalk's own Session Drummer 3, and even fxPansion's venerable DR-008 does, but I gather not many more do).

  36. I'm going to try demo versions before committing to registering licenses. This year I got the Acoustica bundle on Humble Bundle with Pianissimo included. I went ahead and installed everything before checking the small print only to find out later that you can't transfer the license. I have about 20 better pianos than theirs, but I can't even give it away now. Same with all the Magix stuff. I accidentally registered two Studio licenses by magix and I can't de-license them. I'm good at throwing my money away.

  40. Dear CBB team, Can the team have a look at this issue, which I posted about in the Forum awhile back as well. Also sent it to support (Issue: 449386), who requested the wav file, but have not heard anything back yet. I've been through the typical audio setting/adjustment things on my own and with support, with no success. Issue: Possible issue when Cakewalk tries to import/sample convert IEEE-32 Bit floating point WAV files. Sample that for me causes the issue: https://www.dropbox.com/s/x8x6ug2m7r9our7/AW2_Grave_Digger_Piano_Fm_135bpm_1.wav?dl=0 How I am able to see the issue: 1) Unzip the file and put it somewhere you can point the CBB browser to it. 2) Try previewing the sample in the CBB browser. It should play as normal. 3) Create a new Basic Project (or create a project that has an Audio Track). 4) Drag/Drop, or Insert the sample on the audio track, and then play it. On my system, this ends up having some large pop and crackles and slight stuttering of the sample. I can replicate the issue on other 34-bit IEEE-floating point samples as well. I don't seem to have the issue with any PCM wav files. It does not appear to be an audio driver/setting issue, because I can import and then export the track to wav file, and the audio distortion/crackling is there as well. Also, when I tried this with Sonar X3, both the preview AND the import were corrupted! This has lead me to think there was an issue that got fixed in the CBB browser, but not in the import. I have not been able to replicate this issue in any of my other software besides Cakewalk. Sample also plays fine in Windows Media Player.

  43. Mark, I've always liked this song, but I now like it even more. You are faithful to the original, but you manage to make this your own song. That's what I look for in a cover song. Now I want to hear the original version again, so you made me a fan of the Goo Goo Dolls.

  45. I have a fix for that. Apparently that is all you get now with AL V if you are using the controller setting for "Generic MIDI controller". AL will auto-configure for certain Arturia controllers, but will default to "generic" if not. AL 4 used to show all of the controls regardless, so it looks like they made AL V "smarter", LOL. One step back actually, ha! Just open the AL V settings gear icon in the top right, and select the MIDI tab; click on the pull-down menu for MIDI controller and you will see a list of controllers that you can select from. Keylab 49 or 61 work fine for me, and I see all the controls again, even though I am actually using a generic controller.
