  3. Get ready. This week is going to be a very special one. First of all, we are really close to releasing our next beast, Erin, which is based on truly expensive, audiophile-grade processors often found in elite mastering houses, and whose cost easily exceeds $20,000. Secondly, we are soon going to launch a pretty awesome 'Summer Friday' sale, to give everybody the possibility to stock up on powerful studio tools at truly affordable prices. Last year, you might remember, what was planned as just an impromptu weekend flash sale, unexpectedly turned into a very popular promotion. Many users even asked for deal extensions as they didn't have the time to jump on the Acustica wagon in time (many were first-time users). Starting this year, we have decided to make this a yearly appointment. Get ready! https://www.acustica-audio.com/store/en

  5. Maybe there is already one somewhere. I just like programming. 😀 Really old MIDI files used the modwheel for modulation (read vibrato.) These days VSTis use the modwheel for volume/expression. And use aftertouch for modulation/vibrato. This script changes modwheel events to aftertouch events, keeping the value. Will work with any controller, just defaults to modwheel. Change Controller to Aftertouch.CAL

  8. I do have to say that, of ALL the plugins I own, these are the most realistic and sound the best. Obviously, opinions are like "a**holes", but for me, these definitely "win" in the "sound" dept, hands down.

  9. I guys, this is my first post on the BandLab's CakeWalk forum. I did post a few times on the old Roland/Gibson' CakeWalk forum, but after the Gibson fiasco, I lost interest in Sonar and started to use other DAWs. However, I've kept coming back to this "Deal" sub-forum as I've always found it very up-to-date with the latest bargains. I want to thank Robert Bone for this great deal for Windows 10 Pro, and also tell you how I got the absolute best price for us Canadian users (this may also work for non US-based users) After going to the PC World page which advertise the Windows 10 Pro, follow the link to the CleverBridge W10 Pro page and from the top right of the page, change the currency from CAD/Canadian ( 69.99 CAD charged by CleverBridge!!!) to USD (39.99USD or ~ 54$ CAD charged by most Canadian banks, including PayPal). Then instead of clicking "buy now", look at the top left of the page and switch to "Microsoft" to browse for other Microsoft products that CleverBridge sells. You will see a link to buy Windows 10 Home, click on it and then click "Buy Now", you will then be given a choice to continue buying W10 Home or to buy the "upgrade" to W10 Pro for 34.99 USD. Select to upgrade to W10 Pro, continue the buying process, and that's it; you now have a full retail version of Windows 10 PRO for 34.99USD or ~49 $ Canadian Dollars (That's what PayPal charged me). That's ~ 20$ CAD saving compared to what ClerverBridge is charging by default. Note: You will be able to use this "upgrade" trick only once. If ever you want more copies of W10 Pro, CleverBridge will "remember" you and will not offer you to "upgrade" from W10 Home to W10 Pro so if you want more than 1 copy of W10Pro at 34.99 USD, you will have to do it the very first time you buy from CleverBridge. Hopes this help. Again, thanks for Robert Bone and all the others who have contributed to this thread. Also, a huge thanks to cclarry for all his great work on this "Deal" sub-forum :) Chuck

  11. Well, I got FL Studio when I got it for my son, as that was the one he wanted to use, and the same for Pro Tools. I picked up Studio One when Gibson terminated Sonar, but was pleasanly surprised, elated actually, that Cakewalk got resurrected by the FABULOUS owner of Bandlab. Ableton I picked up for free, and I got a new one, Luna, from UAD because of my Arrow Thunderbolt 3 interface. So - I had, and have, no particular interest in trying to become proficient in the multiple DAW products I have - sometimes I get into Studio One, mostly to look around. I never was a big fan of Pro Tools, but a lot of the studios have it, so I picked t up a while back. The only way I get into any of them, is to explore their strengths, and possibly then, to use them, should something be 'easier' to do there, rather than in Cakewalk, but far and away, Cakewalk is ABSOLUTELY my favorite one of all of them, and I go back to the days of the original 12 Tone Systems Cakewalk, in the days before Windows existed. 12. Wow. This was the missing piece of the puzzle the entire time. All I've ever wanted to do is display drum names instead of piano keys over on the left side, I didn't want to work with little fuzzy triangles or necessarily even deviate from General MIDI, because most of my drum synths conform to it. And I see that when I draw a note with it set up like this, it shows the name of the instrument on each MIDI note. Handy. I asked on the forum how people were getting those drum names to show up on the MIDI notes and nobody answered. Maybe as with chuckebaby, they had so much experience that it was "like normal" to them and it didn't occur that I wouldn't know that you could do it, even though I just checked and the documentation says you can specify different instrument names, but doesn't say "you can replace the piano keys with a list of instrument names." Not that I could find, anyway. Two years I've been hassling with Drum Maps when all I had to do was right click on the piano keys and tell it I wanted to use General MIDI Drums. And everyone who's listened to my complaints has probably assumed that I already knew you could do it the easy way. Thank you Steve and Chuck for enlightening me.

  14. This is probably the question I get asked the most seeing how many piano libraries I have reviewed since the first of the year and not counting the ones before that. It is more of favorites that I am really leaning into and really just need to do more actual production with these as I have been doing a lot of videos because not enough productions, it is a moving target. I would say in no particular order: Signature Grand This one hit me out of the blue and I think it changes the game in many respects. This developer took the same piano and recorded it in the same hall as another major piano library (hint: HZ) and provided it to us for an unheard of $49.00. The feel of the room around you and how they were able to bring so many different attitudes to the piano through the presets was really something. The developer has been very responsive as well to feedback so I am sure we have not heard the last from him. Production Grand (as it was the last one I just played): The standout feature here is playability and the amazing microphones and ability to control them that really have this one at the top of any list. The Ribbon and Tube microphones are just outstanding and having 8 mic setups to choose from is very desirable. NOIRE Noire has always been one of my favorites due to how it was put together, you feel the heart in it. Noire also broke new ground with the Particles Engine that many libraries have followed suit with their variations. ASCEND Heavyocity's take, except using a Steinway that has a little more depth and edge in some respects. Garritan CFX The Garritan CFX has something intangible about the shear power and yet a gentle quality about it. Being sampled in Abbey Road Studios also gives it a special something that is hard to explain. You are also given a full compliment of mic choices and somewhat can control the room and feel. It is definitely a choice for "true" classical players as it provides real Una Corda, Soft Pedal, and Sostenuto for a real playing experience. Having only a sustain pedal kept me from exploring this area more. Embertone Walker 1955 D Another stunning and huge library that also provides "true" pedal support. Also the number of velocity layers allows you to get a wide amount of expressiveness. Also the way it was recorded takes the room out of the way and gives you more flexibility in regards to the recording space in general. VSL Synchron Pianos: Bosendorfer Imperial and Yamaha CFX These libraries take things to another level, especially in regards to the velocity layers and ability to mix them using the amazing array of mic positions. The Bosendorfer especially stands out as being very powerful and warm but with a little attitude. The CFX was just BOOM! It was a little hard to get used to the hard right position on the Synchron stage but thankfully they allow you to use panning to help position the pianos. The Full library having the extra Tube and Ribbon mics again are absolutely amazing in how smooth, transparent and silky they are. There are more on the horizon, so stay tuned. I am continually learning so much about these libraries and hope to continue providing helpful observations that can help in deciding which one is right for you. All the best! Simeon

  15. You are right Brian $70 for just 1 plugin is a lot but.... as mentioned often you get more than just 1 plugin under 1 name. Let's check what is included for instance in current deal Nebula N4 for 79EUR: Bundle features Inside this bundle you will find: N4 is a VST, AAX and AU multi-effect plug-in that is able to emulate and replicate several types of expensive audio equipment, eliminating the need for costly and bulky hardware. N4 uses libraries that are created using a sophisticated “sampling approach” making it possible to “record” aspects of the sound of audio devices and play them back. The result of this sampling process is highly realistic, complex emulations of many types of audio signal processes and effects. The Cross Platform Commercial Library (version 5) is a 10 GB library with more than 450 different real hardware emulations sorted by category. The Cross Platform Commercial Library can be downloaded via Aquarius and include in detail: N4 Pack 1 - Compressor (33 emulation presets). N4 Pack 2 - EQ and Filters (73 emulation presets). N4 Pack 3 - Preamps (73 emulation presets). N4 Pack 4 - Time Variant (52 emulation presets). N4 Pack 5 - Room Reverbs (22 emulation presets). N4 Pack 6 - Plate Reverbs Part A (12 emulation presets). N4 Pack 7 - Plate Reverbs Part B (13 emulation presets). N4 Pack 8 - Hall Reverbs Part A (14 emulation presets). N4 Pack 9 - Hall Reverbs Part B (15 emulation presets). N4 Pack 10 - Spring Reverbs (4 emulation presets). N4 Pack 11 - Others Reverbs (20 emulation presets). N4 Pack 12 - Tapes (20 emulation presets). To be clear I am not trying to convince for this deal anybody I am personally skipping it as I have got lately pink but it is tempting...

  16. Would not agree that $70 is affordable in the current landscape of VSTs on sale. Not 100% absurd, but you can get 2 -3 plugins from other makers for that layout on sale. in the Comp, EQ, Saturation type of realm.

  19. This was what I also thought about them but... - some of their deals are really good (like BF2019 and some of their next deals) - you don't need to pay for newer version even if they are upgrading whole engine - it is given for you 4 free - some of their plugins (but not all) are in fact group of plugins so you are in fact buying little bundle (like not just 1 preamp or compressor but few variations etc) - they can really appreciate their customers buying more (what is - as unfortunately we know after experience with some big names - not so often) I mean they are giving vouchers with your discount earned constantly (before every sale and more) and their vouchers aren't inflationing (like some well known examples ) and what's more they seem to be permanent. After reaching next discount threshold you are at that level permanently (at least my history with AA is like that) - converting a plugin to newer engine means a deal for new version (an of course free for old one owners) But yep, true is they require completely different workflow and high resources usage . You just need to set buffer size to big one to avoid audio drops/click/pops... They react with some latency what is at the beginning confusing and annoying. So they are good only in mixing or mastering but not recording ... But about recording with plugins in 'real' time I believe solution like UAD+LUNA is currently unbeatable

  27. Several others got UI updates as well...but pretty much NO. GTR is STILL at 3.5....which is RIDICULOUS. They have time to come out with NEW plugins, but the existing ones languish in the past. Waves has actually CEASED to be of any value. The lower prices are nice, but when you add in WUP, and Transfer Fees, and all the other "garbage", they have become valueless. You can hardly give them away in resale.

  34. Boz took a lot of flak for initially pricing this at $300. He honestly thought it was that good. So did I. But there just wasn't a market for a $300 delay plugin, and it floundered. Even when the price came down to $150, the demand was not huge. Not when you can get goodies such as the wonderful tritik delay for 50 EUR. So I am delighted that it can now be had for 25 bucks. Now everyone can enjoy this top-tier effect. It's my absolute favorite for vocals because you can get that lush thickening that doesn't draw attention to itself, doesn't slur consonants or otherwise muddy the vocal.

  37. Hence, me posting their offer here - GREAT price for Windows 10 Pro, for less than half of the retail version of Windows 10 Home. No-brainer for me, as well - I now have 2 new copies of Windows 10 Pro - one for the desktop I am resurrecting for the nice young married couple I have known for over 5 years - (they are just getting started, so money is tight), and I will keep the 2nd license for when I build my next desktop in a year, to replace the oldest one of 3 that I have (which is also running Win 10 Home, so upgrading to Pro with the new build is a no-brainer). I am SUPER stoked lots of folks have found the deal useful - it is quite legit, and just a fantastic offer. Bob Bone

  40. Probably the result of using the ASIO driver in both programs and the driver lacks multi-client support. Very few Windows programs can use ASIO drivers. Most of these programs are audio or video editors. For most uses, editors like SoundForge do not need to use ASIO drivers. They work fine using regular Windows drivers. Few web browsers support ASIO and for most uses these too can get away with using Windows audio drivers. Using regular Windows audio drivers when possible eliminates competition for the ASIO driver.

  45. The license is not attached to anything. You do not need to download anything right now. In fact what you are downloading now is the Microsoft Media Creator which is used to download the current version of Windows 10. You can do that any time. Squirrel your license away and use it when you need to activate Windows 10 at a later date.
