  1. IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ An Early Access build of Cakewalk by BandLab is now available, and we'd love for you to try it out! As an Early Access build, this is not an official Cakewalk release. If you have not already done so, please be sure to read about the Early Access Program before participating. Download the Cakewalk 2019.07 Early Access installer Please note that an official release will be announced once the Early Access period has ended. Thanks in advance for your participation! The Bakers 2019.07 brings major usability enhancements, including Comping and Take lane enhancements, Smart Tool customization, Control Bar module alignment and over 100 bug fixes. Highlights Smart Tool customization The Smart Tool can be customized in order to disable specific functions and simplify the Smart Tool behavior. The Smart Tool is powerful, but may produce unintended results in certain situations, such as inadvertently isolating clips in Take lanes when clicking the bottom half of clips. If you are not strictly using Take lanes for comping, you may want to disable the comping behavior. Center Control Bar modules Control Bar modules can be left-aligned, justified, or centered. Comping and Take lane enhancements Comping and take management has undergone a massive overhaul for this release with many workflow improvements, optimizations and bug fixes. A few highlights: Freely assemble clips in track lanes either by recording or dragging and dropping from different sources Configure the Smart Tool to optionally turn off comping features while editing audio on lanes and re-enable it when you are ready to start building a comp track Copy/paste and drag drop enhancements There have been numerous improvements and bug fixes with selection and copy paste: Inter project drag and drop and copy paste support for take lanes and automation lanes Improved drag drop preview to visually represent the final data Full support for drag and drop of take lanes between tracks. New lanes are auto appended to tracks when dropping / pasting clips from multiple lanes Lane order is retained when dropping / pasting clips from multiple lanes Improved support for pasting track and clip envelopes in lanes Help Module content for clips The Help module is a window that dynamically shows contextual help for various UI elements in Cakewalk. Simply point to a UI element for a brief moment, and the Help module displays a short description of the UI element. In addition to a brief description of the clip type, the Help Module also lists common Smart Tool gestures that are supported by each unique clip type. Selection markers in time ruler The time ruler now shows draggable markers at either end of the time selection range. You can modify the start or end of the selection by dragging these markers or move the entire time selection by dragging the selection range bar. Loop and Punch marker enhancements The time ruler now uses more intuitive mouse cursors for selection, loop, punch and marker drag bars and handles. The mouse cursor shows a letter to indicate which marker will be modified before you actually click the marker: S (Selection), L (Loop), P (Punch), and M (Marker). Fixes & Enhancements Stability Crash when pasting automation Crash on opening project after closing another Improved notification handling Crash copying and pasting bus automation Projects using elastique audio crash when playing if audio is missing Optimizations Screensets in projects with high track counts load faster Multi threaded UI updates for notifications Undo redo of take Lanes is faster UI Bounced Track fails to appear with user created Lens Changing Lens and reopening CbB changes "None" unexpectedly Full Screen Mode only expands across multiple monitors Changing screensets slow with large number of tracks Selection/Tools CTRL Selecting clip doesn't work if the clip is partially selected as a result of a time selection CTRL clicking a clip during playback creates a clip envelope instead of selecting the clip Select Tool cannot select Comp Clip Control Bar Ability to center Control Bar modules Control Bar Export Module can lose gripper Export CB module is cropped when CB is locked and justified Resetting the Control Bar doesn't unlock module order Draw issue with Control Bar when floating after justify Take Lanes/Comping Copy paste in take lanes can delete source data Editing clips in lanes can lead to un-editable clip envelopes Copying and pasting clips from multiple take lanes is not possible Loop recording in Comp mode with lanes closed causes unexpected cropping of clips Some projects could prevent clip envelopes from being edited Now Time jumps in playback when isolating clips in Take lanes during playback Copy/Paste does not work as expected in Take Lanes CTRL Selecting neighboring clip does no't work immediately after isolating a clip region in a take lane Copying data from non-adjacent lanes pastes to adjacent lanes Dragging MIDI clips from Browser goes to lane 1 Pasting multiple clips in lanes to a track with single lane does not refresh UI Drag drop of multiple audio files from browser to take lanes not supported Pasting Multiple clips in lanes to bottom lanes cause clips to collapse to single lane Double clicking take lane in clips view does not select lane Clips in lanes cannot drag from one track to different lanes in another track Dragging takes to a new track skips over populated lanes Drag drop between lanes doesn't work properly when hidden tracks present Clips can be moved from their original take lane on CTRL drag and drop Copying clips in Lanes with envelopes gives unexpected results. Clip can no longer be selected after undo of drag Pasting clips in lanes to new project does not refresh UI correctly. Undo of paste of multiple lanes in new project does not behave as expected Comp Clip Draws unexpectedly after crop Dragging clips on MIDI take lanes to create overlaps does not crop data Dragging group of clips to new track deletes existing clip on destination track Pasting multiple layers to last lane in a track creates extra lanes Comp clip remains visible after dragging outside of the Clips View "Delete Muted Takes" renamed "Delete Muted Clips" Lane order changes pasting to new project Lanes order of order when dragging to create a new track When creating clip/automation lanes, Take lane initially appears grayed out Shift click does not work on comp clip when take lanes open Bouncing to clip causes clip to change lanes unexpectedly Duplicated tracks with lanes inverts order Redoing a loop recording in comp record mode fails to restore recorded clips state Automation Clip envelope in lanes cannot be edited after save/reopen of project Reassigning Automation Envelopes closes lanes unexpectedly Automation from multiple lanes pastes to a single lane Pasting Multiple Automation envelopes to track with fewer lanes has unexpected result Dragging clips from Browser to Lanes removes automation data Drag Copy to new project does not copy automation Automation lanes not created after recording track automation Automation lanes are copied out of order, and not all copied if automation lanes are expanded in destination project Some projects are saved with clip envelopes assigned to incorrect lanes Setting Edit filter to clip automation on a lane doesn't work properly when multiple clips present Clip envelopes on lanes don't respect edit filter state when loading projects Clip envelopes lose visibility on take lanes when toggling show take lanes Duplicate Track does not persist Automation lane state When pasting automation then showing lanes, Edit Filter is not set correctly with FX automation Redo not populating automation lanes correctly. 2. Thank you for your interest in the Cakewalk by BandLab Early Access Program! This program helps us get better real world test coverage from users, in order to improve the reliability and quality of our releases. Our users also get the benefit of trying out the latest Cakewalk updates, with the opportunity to provide helpful feedback prior to an official release. Participation is, of course, 100% optional. If you would like to participate or learn more about the program, please review the following guidelines: Installing Early Access software When an Early Access release is available, a download link will be provided in the announcement topic for a given release. Early Access announcements will be posted in this forum. You install the software as you would an official release, or simply ignore it until it is announced to the public. A download link will be provided in the topic that announces the availability of a given Early Access release Early Access Installers will only update the full previous release version To roll back to the previous release version, you will need to uninstall Cakewalk and reinstall from BandLab Assistant In Cakewalk, Help > Check for update will display previous release build as the latest until final release Cakewalk will present an "Update Available" notification when the final release version becomes available, if Notifications are enabled Sharing feedback Please post any feedback about Early Access builds in the Early Access Program forum, by replying directly to the topic in which the Early Access version is announced. Please do not contact customer support with issues in Early Access releases. Any issues should be exclusively reported by following the instructions noted above. What is Early Access? We release Early Access releases after the product has completed the beta testing phase and we have no outstanding blocking issues. Cakewalk by BandLab has a separate beta program, comprised of members who provide feedback through a variety of perspectives and test scenarios. Beta is also available to dozens of major software and hardware companies. In Early Access releases, all features have been completed and tested. This phase permits us to get extended feedback from a much wider user base and find any system specific issues that may have been missed by beta testing. As such, since there is a small possibility of bugs being found, if you are working under a production deadline we don't recommend using an Early Access release. Of course, we provide a roll back capability for Early Access so it's always possible to go back to the last stable release. Duration of Early Access period We release Early Access builds when we are very close to deploying a new release, typically about a week out, barring any unexpected findings. Thank you! The Bakers

  8. Another Theme to add to the choices, M-Blue Flare is a dark theme with bright blue text, a blue flare effect (darker top into light then back to darker at the bottom) on most buttons and some other items, blue curved effect meter LEDs (full sized meters and ProChannel Eq flyout meters only), Faders with blue flare effect LED centre position mark and gold track faders. Free Download here..... M-Blue Flare A combined total of around 150 hours, sometimes much more, goes in to creating each Theme I make, then there's more time spent to update them whenever BandLab makes changes or additions to the Cakewalk GUI to ensure any changed or new items display correctly and match the Theme, I also don't make all these Themes for myself, it's more of a hobby and to share the end results with the Cakewalk Community for their use and enjoyment at no charge, Any Tips/Donations via the following link for my time and efforts in creating and updating these are greatly appreciated, however small. Thank You! ❤️ https://www.paypal.me/MatthewJohnWhite

  17. My general advise for reverb is KISS. Unless you have a specific use case to ride the reverb effect hard and/or use side-chain compression, just slap it as an effect at the end of the chain, and keep it at around -6dB or less. And if a synth has a wet sound, don't even bother, you can easily oversoak the sound that way.

  19. Hi, I had an old computer and I installed Cakewalk. I liked it very much, and when I bought the new one that was more powerful (Asus Rog Strix Scar II), I decided to install it as well. But it goes a lot slower than the old one. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  20. It's been awhile so hi fellas. I don't recognize all the names but I do remember Bapu, Steve, Craig and Bill. I was in a friend's studio awhile back and he was mixing this album for a singer he has under contract. I thought her voice was fantastic. I was told she tours with Stevie Wonder and is signed with Quincy Jones Productions to perform at his clubs around the world. I recently saw her on a PBS special with David Foster. She is very well known in the business but still just about unknown to the general public. Attached is a video where she's singing at the Obama White House's tribute to Burt Bacharach.

  25. I've not had a huge amount of experience with Samsung SSD's, but quality-wise I they're probably on par - at least for the evo/pro range vs the crucial MX range. This deal is for the QVO series though... which is their budget range. It's more akin to the Crucial BX series than the Crucial MX series. Personally, I wouldn't go for these ones. For the same price you an get a CrucialMX500 1TB, which is a much better drive.

  28. The developer constantly updates and improves it since release. You can import samples, they added a granular engine, it has a drum sequencer, etc. You should try the demo. I tried it on release and was sold. At half-price, with upcoming 1.5, it’s better than all of them in my opinion.

  31. @Craig Anderton you make me laugh! Depending on your hard drive type, defragging may be advice from the past. Ssds don't really require defragging. Older users tend to run virus scanners. If you don't need it, uninstall it. I have not bought third party scanners since around 2000. Windows defender needs configuring to stay out of the way of your daw. You don't want windows scanning all the new wave files every time you hit stop or bounce a track. Children have great success with lots of machines because their use-case is different. While gamers work cpus, they are not doing it concurrently with capturing gigs of real time data. If you have to wait a second for the next game world to load it doesn't really matter. Honestly, mac, Linux, Windows... They all work fine if you buy the right thing and set it up properly. Like so many today, i make my living as a computer expert. I'm good at what i do. That said, i don't build daws for a living. That is why i bought a studio cat pc from @Jim Roseberry. He does. I couldn't resist tweaking it after i got it. I've added to it over the years... 7 or 8 years maybe? I have no regrets. It makes me smile when i work that horse hard enough to hear all the fans blow. Did it last night exporting these videos... http://gswitz.blob.core.windows.net/tunes/20190630_ChrisVasi.html I use Linux and widows. I can use the same hardware for both. I boot to Linux using a ssd usb drive. Mixbus has some cool features and work flows. Check out Ubuntu studio if you are interested. With wine and Carla, you can use most third party vsts [like melda]. Only mixing, computer requirements come way down. Put your buffer to the max and have fun with a 25 year old pc. 😁 Recording large track counts live is a little different. No room for error. Honestly, i don't use cakewalk for that. If there is a problem, I don't want the recording to stop. @Noel Borthwick maybe a keep recording no matter what button would be a nice thing to have. Capture what you can, mark missed audio... Let me fix it later [or cut it]. Keep in mind you only need one good working solution. Like only needing one spouse. Once you are paired up, you can forget hunting forever.

  38. This issue must be something that is occurring when the Channel Emulator is used in a certain way. If it weren't, the forum would be full of complaints and the development team and beta testers would have noticed it a long time ago. The Console Emulation is a commonly used module. There must be a plug-in, module, way of routing, something that is happening on your system. If it's a bug, it's one that's exposed in combination with these other factors, so please post more about what other plug-ins and ProChannel modules you are using, where the track is routed, etc. The Console Emulator adds a bit of gain, so it may even be that the gain inherent to the module is causing something to go into oscillation. It also has its own resonant peak.

  39. At APG CrazyCounter is a simple plugin that yields complex result. It’s a twisted take on a metronome. Rather than just being able to set a basic a time signature it allows you to set the beat in terms of ratios. This can be used to generate interesting cross rhythms that can be sent via MIDI to trigger a VSTi of your choice. https://www.audiopluginguy.com/free-crazy-counter/?fbclid=IwAR1gOqrpuBQC3YGrG-stRCDzuai4ho8cu6Pp5kiFCgCsEqIxDYeegqA7gco

  40. LOL. I know what is possible to do just with 2 buttons (or pedals), especially if there are keys in addition. Or with 3 buttons and one encoder (a dedicated mouse, as a DAW controller). I also have "one encoder" variation of Roland keyboard. And I can use any normal knob as encoder or "instant control" (without the need to sync first). But the discussion has started with Keylab 49, with hardware encoders. I mean that is in different league. F.e. encoders configured as: Jogger, track selection, current track volume and pan. But well, GX61 + X-Touch Mini can be nice combination. With combined price equal to LX61 😉 Unfortunately, when I was shopping for a small keyboard, I have failed to play anything except Yamaha synth keys and Roland MIDI keys (I have checked all available at that times devices, thanks to the shop in the near which had them all). Yamaha produce no MIDI keyboards, so I had no choice...

  44. When downloading Tyrell 6 take a look at the other u-he freebies Podolski and Zebralette. They are all available from the u-he main page. Click Products on the menu. They are listed in the freeware section. For those interested in a preview of what the VCVRack will look like as VST, here is a port of v0.6 called VeeSeeVST which contains a lot of the free modules. The regular VST release of VCVRack will not be free. The current version of VCVRack is a standalone synth but has several record modules and there is a bridge which can communicate with CbB albeit a little flaky. I doubt VeeSeeVST will see much more development given the scheduled release of VCVRack VST near the end of the year.

  46. I had this exact same experience, although a complete re-install on to an SSD and upgrading to 8GB RAM did solve it. In saying that, replacing the HD on a Mac mini is a prize PITA. All I use my mac for now for software development, and even then, it's just as a compiler. My actual development is done on a PC. As for running Logic... is a great DAW, but a few things to consider: Unless you're running a fairly modern mac pro, you're going to be disappointed with performance, and how many instruments & effects it will cope with. Older macs CANNOT be upgraded. I've got a mid 2010 mac mini. It won't let me install the latest MacOS. Apple regularly limit what versions of MacOS their software will run on, so you may be stuck with an older version until you upgrade your mac Apple deprecate hardware interfaces (e.g. firewire, USB etc) so you may be limited to what audio interfaces you can use, and adapters may or may not work. Upgrading your mac nowadays is a quite often big-bang approach (especially with the lower range models). Apple are making it increasingly difficult for you to upgrade individual components. At least with a PC you can upgrade your components bit by bit. So before you commit to the Mac route... prepare to spend some serious cash... and be prepared to spend more once Apple deem your hardware "old".

  47. Thanks for all the comments! Even if I don't think that these bugs have to do with the system itself (the 2nd bug certainly not!), here are the system specifications: i5-8600K (3.6GHz, 6 cores, Coffee Lake), MSI Z370-A Pro, 16 GB memory, 512 GB SSD Focusrite Scarlett Solo 2nd Gen (I tried with the previous and very actual driver) I didn't have the time yet, but I will try to find out if the Focusrite driver has something to do with it (unstoppable playing), i.e. I will test with my 2nd USB audio interface (Behringer UMC404HD). But even if the Focusrite driver is involved, CbB should have control over its audio thread, so that you can close it! Also I have to mention that this happens even in very tiny projects, i.e. there is only one simple instrument track (AAS Strum GS-2) and a second audio track with some loop recorded takes (44.1kHz, 24-bit). I did not use any more plugins (Not that the ones jump in that always insist it maybe a plugin problem)! Most of the time the instrument track is muted, because I have soloed the track with the takes! And maybe 2 very important details: I had always enabled a small loop range but I stopped (tried to stop) the audio transport before repetition by hand (with the spacebar or the stop button). The metronome is always enabled (play) In addition to the test with another audio interface I will also check if it makes a difference if I replace the instrument track by an audio track, as this would remove the only plugin used. The second bug (clip start position) may also have a relation to loop recorded takes only. In any case I have had this problem always with such clips.

  48. I've been using Cakewalk for about two months now. I've got a Focusrite 6i6 interface and my computer has an i7 with 24G of RAM with a solid state hard drive. Things were going ok (I mean, I was having a fair amount of crashes, but for a free DAW; it made me diligent about saving) until today. I was recording a guitar part, stepped away, and when I came back everything was SLOW. This is NOT a latency issue. For stability reasons I have my buffer set to 512 and just monitor directly through the interface. No, now what happens is when I hit the space bar to stop play, for example, it takes a full 4 or 5 seconds for the cursor to reset to the start spot. During this time the DAW is frozen. Then is goes back to playing like usual. The whole program just seems to have gone into slow motion. I tried reinstalling, to no avail. I am at the verge of tears. If anyone has any suggestions I am all ears. Also, if I didn't provide enough details, please ask. I'm so frustrated right now I'm probably not being very eloquent. thanks, Ryan
