Scott Posted Thursday at 06:40 PM Posted Thursday at 06:40 PM Hello: A question for the more experienced users of Sonar 2025... Currently, I will create a few guitar tracks. When I'm done, I'll go back and add in compression to each track. Is it correct to just create a Stereo Bus and send these tracks to that buss? I've created a Stereo Bus for Compression. However, I can't seem to find how to send these tracks to that bus. Am I'm approaching this correctly? Thanks for any help.
Bass Guitar Posted Thursday at 09:26 PM Posted Thursday at 09:26 PM First once you create a bus you simply change the output of any tracks that you want to go there. Make sure that the bus is going to the Master. I find that this is easier to visualize in the console view. Look for the output at the bottom of the channel strip. The use of compression is an open ended topic. But generally speaking with guitars you will want it on the track. Either use the pro channel modules or a 3rd party plugin in the FX bin. You don’t normally want to use heavy compression globally because if there are 4 instruments feeding the compressor the loudest one will kill the rest. You normally use them track by track. You can also use one on a bus but then normally it would be set for limiting. not compression. That said there are no rules about using any effects. Just common practice. Compression on guitar is pretty standard and my favourite is using the stomp box found in THU. 1

Technically, you need to route the Outputs of the guitar tracks to the guitar bus - don't use a send 3 hours ago, Scott said: I've created a Stereo Bus for Compression. However, I can't seem to find how to send these tracks to that bus As Bass Guitar said above - you put compressors on each track. If you want to add bus compression as well, just use the Bus Pro Channel or the Fx bin You don't *send* them anywhere. But be wary of using too much compression, especially if your compressors offer a ratio control. The effect of ratio on a signal is mulrplicative, not additive. So if your 2 compressors have their ratios set to 5:1 the overall effect is 25:1 Edited Thursday at 09:47 PM by Bristol_Jonesey 1

In a blank area below the tracks (in Track View), right-click and select 'create stereo bus'. Once created, double-click on the bus name and name it whatever you want, like 'Guitars'. Then you can choose that bus for all your guitar tracks if you want. If you don't already have a Master bus, create one, ensure the Master bus is output to your sound-making device and direct all your tracks to busses and all your busses to the Master bus.
Bass Guitar Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Small error in what Greg said. You don’t click in the blank area below the tracks. You click in the blank area below the Buses. The Bus pane is below the track pane and by default it is hidden. Either pull it up using the little handle on the cross bar or use Shift/ B In this video I demonstrate all this. 1
Bristol_Jonesey Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago You can also select the output drop down on the track and choose Stereo Bus
