The following Cakewalk Sonar warning has been appearing more often lately. It usually shows up when I'm trying to load a heavy library, but now it appeared when it was completely stopped and I was listening to music on VLC player! When it happens Cakewalk stops responding and it`s not possible to load anything or even run Cakewalk and I have to reset my PC! Any tips? Thanks.

Very little to go on.

What are your PC specs.  What driver mode, sample rate, bit depth and buffer size are you using?

Have you opened an errant project in Safe mode to rule out a problem with a plugin?

Can it be assumed that you have already tried uninstalling, (updating if necessary) your Audio Interface drivers.

If you have confirmed that your hard drive(s) are in good condition,  what tools have you used to confirm this?

My guess is you are using an ASIO driver with your audio interface.  The other program (such as the VLC player) is not releasing the ASIO driver so Cakewalk Sonar can use the audio interface.

Try changinging the audio driver settings to something other than ASIO in the other program.

Also check Windows Sound properties for the device and make sure both exclusive mode options are unchecked. Windows itself can deny access to apps if another is already using it when those exclusive mode options are checked.

Quick side comment, this issue was also on the list of bug fixes in the 2025.11 release post.

"ASIO Hang Fix: Resolved an issue where Sonar could hang indefinitely if the ASIO driver was in use by another application at a different sample rate."

Thank you all for the tips! I will check them all!

What call my attention is that this warning message is new to me! I use Cakewalk for more that 10 years now!

I am using Focusrite Scarlett 2i 2 interface and ASIO driver.

I know this sounds weird but I am still using the Focusrite Beta drivers from 2020 for my Focusrite Scarlett 8i6.

Bizarrely, on my PC, any version later than this (including public release) gives me various issues.

Issues such as:

· If other application is using the ASIO mode while Sonar is opened, Sonar will not detect the Focusrite Scarlett 8i6.
· With the Windows Sound Properties sound test, there is a noticeable delay between hitting the “test” button and hearing the sound.
· High latency with other audio application that use WASAPI mode
· When using OSB ASIO plugin and using WASAPI mode, there is noticeable pops and clicks.

I have tried everything, disabled safe mode for the Focusrite settings, made sure sample rates, bit depth and buffer sizes match, turn off exclusinve mode in Windows Sound Properties, etc.  Nothing got rid of these issue with the latest Focusrite drivers.

None of these issues occur with the Focusrite Beta 2020 drivers.

Note: Focusrite support are looking into this.
