envelope automation nodes and clip question

Is there a setting that when you select a group of automation nodes that the clips in that region doesn't get selected as well?

The annoyance issue I'm having is when I delete a group of selected nodes, the clips in that region also got deleted.  In my case I have the envelope zoomed in and didn't pay attention to the clip above and found out much later.

Are you editing automation nodes from the Automation Lane or directly in the Track?

Use the right mouse button to lasso the nodes - it won't select a region.
