Question

I used my Blue Yetti 2nd Gen mic for the 1st time and it recorded straight lines & no wave patterns.   My Blue Yetti 1st gen or lower model it always gave me wave forms like ever other mic.  What's the deal?  I got heavy latency since I'm not running through my focus right (which sucks) so I need to see those wave patterns to drag and get the timing on.

If the sound is there like normal when you play the recorded tracks, but you just can't see it, then it doens't have anything to do with hte source, as the recording is still happening as normal.

That usually means either you are zoomed out vertically on the track itself so that it can't display the waveform, and vertically zooming in on it would show it, or that the wave isn't being drawn because something has caused the "picture cache" files that contain the preview of these waveforms to go missing or be corrupted.  You can regenerate those either by opening the properties for the clip (alt-enter, or double-click, or rightclick on it and choose clip properties, etc) and finding hte button to redraw those (in my ancient version that is in the last tab on the right), or by emptying hte picture cache folder (there are a few threads about that including one posted to just yesterday, if you poke around the forums).

If the sound is not there either when you play back, then you'd need to be sure that you are getting sound from the source and it's showing that on the record meter inside the recording program.

Welcome to the forum.
How high is your input level? If the level is very low, it will record but may not have large enough waveforms to see.
Why aren't you using the Focusrite? For the price of a Yeti, you could have gotten a Shure SM58 and not have to worry about moving clips around.
What model is the microphone? I can't find a "Blue Yetti 2nd Gen mic" anywhere.

Long standing fact-! USB mikes are for podcasts and rarely can be used with any Daw.

I agree with @57Gregy  Buy a Mike that comes with a proper XLR cable.
I just picked up a Tascam large diaphragm condenser Mike for $89 ! It’s got a bit of background noise but you can’t hear it unless there’s total silence. Im blown away by how good it sounds for that price.

Another thing is setup and usage should be the same as with any other mic (arm with input echo on, set gain levels, etc., before recording)... did you do that? Another thing you may find in that exercise (I noticed this with the Revelators) is that the gain knob on the mic and the gain knob in the mixer app are completely independent of each other. You will catch this when setting things up properly, but the physical gain knob was zeroed out on the dynamic when I got it. The Blue Yeti has a physical gain knob on the mic as well.
