jkoseattle
I bought a Casio full size digital piano to play and practice on. I love the convenience of on-board sound and don't care that it's not the greatest piano sound ever. Good enough and terrific action. Anyway, I am trying to use it with Sonar and while it's okay, it seems unreliable. Sometimes Sonar doesn't let me record with the keyboard, and its comprehension of sustain pedal is wonky. Are these artifacts of the thing not being built to be a Midi controller in the first place, or do these symptoms point to some other problem? Amberwolf
What MIDI interface are you using between it and the computer? How long are the cables?
mettelus
Which digital piano model are you running? CASIO's website is a bit convoluted so things can be hard to find, but I would start with the manuals section for your model. One of the manuals that may pop up at the bottom is "MIDI Implementation," which will detail the nuances of your particular model. Some models note that they are "compatible" but not "fully compliant," so keep that in mind while searching.
Bass Guitar
I’ve read this issue a few times. The older Casio’s with midi ports made decent controllers but since they switched to USB people have minor issues. It’s because there’s no manufacturer midi drivers so you’re relying on Windows to sort that out. In other words it’s a generic USB midi driver. You might try switching to the new midi driver mode UMP instead of the default MME. Most brands like Roland supply Microsoft with the midi driver which now is included in a Windows update. If you’re using older versions of Windows that also can cause issues. With the keyboard connected open device manager and look for it and you can see what the driver is. jkoseattle
Thanks everyone for all this feedback. Rather than continue on this thread I'm going to take these suggestions and spend a little time following up with these ideas.
Bass Guitar
It is nice if people do solve the problem to report back as solved so the thread serves as a useful function for future users searching for the same problem. It’s what user forums are good for.
