Does the DXI plugin no longer recognize it?

Recommended Posts

Today I installed Hyper Canvas, which has been stored on my computer for many years, and found that only VST was installed. I copied Hyper Canvas.DLL to the VST directory of hackwalk and it can recognize it, but I cannot save the instrument. I have to reload the instrument every time I reopen cwp. If only DXI format is installed, neither CbB nor Sonar can scan this plugin. What is the reason for this? Did DAW abandon DXI, or was there a problem with my default installation? Are there any special requirements for the installation path?

DX is/was native to Windows. It does not need to be scanned. If the Windows operating system 'sees' it, it may work in Cakewalk.

DX and DXi are not detected and found by the plugin manager; they must be installed correctly by the installer itself.   Some of them can be manually registered with Windows by using regsvr32.  If you do a websearch on that phrase you can probably find the instructions to do this.

However, if you are using a 64 bit version of Sonar / CbB, it might not be able to use the 32bit plugins.  (I don't have either on my machine to test.   A while back I had this type of problem with Splat, IIRC, not being able to see 64bit stuff using hte 32 bit version, and not bieng able to see 32bit stuff in the 64 bit version).

I seem to remember reading here that 32-bit DX will not work in 64-bit OSes.

Can't be completely true, as I am using Windows10 64 bit and my ancient 32-bit Sonitus DX plugins and the old DXi synths like Cyclone, Psyn, etc. all still work perfectly fine (in my ancient pre-gibson SONAR).  (I never used TTS1 so I don't have it on here to test but it would probably work too).

I found this in the CbB manual.

It's been mentioned many times that 32 bit DX plugins won't work in 64 bit Cakewalk.  32 bit VSTs can be bridged, tho.  Plugin Manager may not scan DX, but it does display them if they're registered and/or present in the listed scan folders.

Are you saying that the installation directory for DX needs to be placed in the DX directory of Cake Walk? The default directory for Hyper Canvas is program files (x86), do I need to reinstall it?

C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared DXi,Do I need to install to this directory? I found traces of TTS-1 here.

They won't if it's 32 bit DX.  They will if it's 32 bit VST, which can be bridged in 64 bit CbB and Sonar.

If you have both VST and DX, why not install the VST?  DX must be registered in Windows.  See if this helps:

If you think a plugin should be listen in PIM, check the Show Excluded and permanently excluded boxes.

Sir, the VST format can be used normally, but the only drawback is that after setting multiple channel tones, it can produce sound normally. After saving it as a CWP file and opening it again, all channel tones will return to the default piano tone. I have to choose the tone of each channel again, which is time-consuming.

I found a way to select the timbres for each channel and save them as a performance file with the GMF extension in the settings. After reopening CWp, I read the GMF file and the timbres were loaded back. However, this is a bit time-consuming. Other VST audio sources can automatically save timbres, but Hyper Canvas cannot.

I'm not that familiar with Hyper Canvas but 64 bit TTS-1 is the latest version of it from Roland/Cakewalk with some improvements.  The sound set may be a little different but the 2 are almost identical.  If you can use it that would be the way to go.  You can install TTS-1 from an earlier version of SONAR if you have one.
