Spooky (with AI Video)

My next attempt at using free AI video generators to make a video for my song. It features some of my neighbors, all but one of which I have had around here (you can guess which one I haven't encountered) in a hopefully entertaining take on Halloween in the high desert. I used Addictive Drums 2, SI bass, some percussion from AAS presets, Kontakt Hybrid Keys, UJAM Sparkle guitar, and  used lots of melodyne and various spacious fx.  It was interesting just as I was making the many short free video clips, new places to get free ones kept popping up so there is quite a bit of inconsistency in the quality of the free images and videos. They seemed to improve so then I would have to redo an older one at the new site. I could have gone on longer doing that but felt done enough. There seemed to be fewer hellucinations (Halloween pun) this time around which is interesting. Again some made me laugh when I saw what AI created from my prompt or image,  so I enjoyed the process. I may replace a few clips in the future but for now wanted to post this and move on to the next thing. Thanks for listening and any feedback, And Happy Halloween! Treesha

Living in the desert city, where it's not uncommon to have cacti in front yards and whatnot, I have had a few momentary waking nightmares during night bicycle rides past some of the creepier looking damaged or deformed saguaros, in years past, so the visuals on this one are...memorius (not a word, but I don't know a right one; nothing seems to fit).

I like it overall; the only changes I would probably make if I were doing it is add a more gradual intro sound (but I do that a lot) and probably add some spooky / wierd noises to match the visuals (probably out of one of the SampleTraxx sets like Rituals, Volta, Old Broken Piano, Torsion, --there are some *great* horror sounds in these!; I used a few within the Aftermath of Sunlight and it's sequel Pre-Cast Shadows neither of whcih is very good but you can get the idea of what some of the sounds in those sets are like.  They have some packs even more horror-oriented than those that I have not yet used in anything like Danza Macabre).

Not a fan of AI video but the music was very cool. If you like the Sparkle Guitar (like me), Native Instruments has an interesting instrument called Desolate Guitars Fragment (that is a free version of their Desolate Guitars) that has a great Angelo Badalamenti (Twin Peaks music) vibe to it.

Hi Treesha

Liked this but have very mixed feelings with regard to AI - i think creating something like this is OK, but this AI music stuff is very bad - especially when they create a "pretend" artist as well as "pretend" music - i watched a video about one scam a few weeks ago where pretend music and pretend artist had been created by AI and believe it or  not, a pretend Charity for the pretend artist!!! just one gigantic scam....

Sorry about the slight rant, I really did like the track

HI Amberwolf

thanks for listening/watching and your feedback. So you too have experienced the creepiness of cactus ! Hope I didnt cause you night mares. I usually start a song gradually too but this one I just wanted to punch in. And I put some scary kind of sounds here and there and decided not to go further into adding scary sounds, maybe to avoid being too typical for Halloween. I will save your suggestions for any future uses so thanks for the tips.

Hi Chaps,

thanks for listening/watching. Glad you enjoyed the music. Interesting i do have desolate guitars free version and think I actually did use it in there but forgot to put it in my list. I really had difficulties choosing the guitar sounds I wanted to use and redid what I used many times, so I think it was one of the ones I kept parts of in the song.  Always amazing what great free stuff is available.

HI Nigel

Thanks for listening/watching and im glad you really liked the track. Ai is such a mixed bag and becoming more involved in everything every day. Its so fast, as I said during the making of the video new free programs would show up online. I have concerns too. My state is in a pilot program where medical decisions will be made using AI. Great. Yes its fun to play with and make images and videos but it goes way beyond that. Its like a pandoras box thats been opened and time will tell where its all going to take us. I hear you.

I liked the video, even the tarantulas.
Nice dissonance going on in the beginning which works well with the spooky theme.
Vocal doubling is nicely done with good use of fx. Overall well done!

I've used AI to generate still images but haven't tried video mainly because the technology isn't quite there yet. But I'm not so sure I even want it to advance to believable videos.

Ai vids seem to be a new divisive point, don't they? In this case, whatever misgivings one might have about the ai vid clips should be completely mitigated by the female tarantula smoking  cigarette post-coitus. That brilliant moment is utterly unobtainable for the bedroom studio with anything else other than ai.

Same with the cactii petting the coyotes. Very very imaginative!

But as a result, to my mind, the song becomes unrememorable, as its the video I remember after viewing. Which is too bad because its a groovy song, too.

In short, I liked it for reasons I don't necessarily like, which is awkward for me.  But I would definitely show this to kids, its a fun one!

Thanks for the interesting and thought-provoking post, and happy Halloween to ya!

Hi Bjorn, thank you for listening/watching. Thanks for the positive feedback too. I do think it gets better at what it does so just a matter of time till its very advanced. I kinda like the odd things it does so I will miss that.

Treesha , I must say the video had me laughing a few times. 😁 I do think the main star was your vocals. Very Nice .. I especially enjoyed the harmony(s). Superb job , I really enjoyed this one ..      mark

Hi Mark, thanks for listening/watching. Glad you had some laughs so did I. Some of the prompts or images I used when I saw the results I laughed, many unplanned. Thanks for the positive feedback. My layering vocals is because my voice is always bothered by smoke, pollen, dust so it became what I do to improve my songs and I do enjoy making them. I couldn't do without Melodyne ! both to clean things up and to line things up but also to test out where a harmony might sound good and for some special effects too.

Ha, that female tarantula was a generated image with a messed up cigarette so I had to fix the cigarette position in corel, then add some smoke and I used a program I have from some bundle purchase called Photo Mirage that you can animate things sort of and turn a picture into a video clip. So thats how that one came to be. I used it on a few other still photos to give a little animation. Glad you liked the song and that the video stuck with you even if its awkward to you but fun too. I appreciate your comment, thanks for listening/watching.
