sjoens
Ever since X2 we've had "special" versions of Copy, Cut, Paste, and Delete. Delete Special has enough options, including delete hole, to sometimes not need Ripple Edit. With all options checked, the data after the deleted area slides back to remove the gap with no bouncing required on MIDI tracks. It works for all tracks at once too. Just like Ripple Edit for some reason, Audio tracks are left with a new clip requiring a bounce. Currently no key bindings are assigned but can be. Bass Guitar Posted yesterday at 01:25 AM Share Posted yesterday at 01:25 AM I think the difference is that Ripple edit also removes chunks of data from the tempo track and automation. Im pretty sure deleting a hole doesn’t.
sjoens Posted yesterday at 05:58 AM Author Share Posted yesterday at 05:58 AM I'm sure RE is more robust but for quick simple jobs, Delete Special works without worrying about whether I forgot to turn RE off or not.
Wookiee
@sjoens both delete and delete special are not as complete as they could be. Ripple Edit affects all data, including envelopes.

It was the shortcomings of Delete Hole plus issues with the 'Move Over to Make Room' option for drag and drop that drove to the implementation of Ripple Editing.
AB99
Why not improve the delete hole option with an extra box asking it to move the tempo data and also allow it to move data appropriately when there is no data in the hole? It seems that having these separated functions of delete hole and ripple edit just make the program it more complicated.

And (not having tested in anything modern) if it stil has the issue it does in my ancient versions of not moving bus automation...that too.
sjoens
I remember some of those issues years ago, but after running a few tests in X3, SPlat and CbB I find Delete Special improved with each version and actually works as expected in CbB. At least in small simple projects. But as with all things, know the limits and use accordingly.
Chaps
Just thought I'd post a screencap of the Delete Special options in the latest Sonar free version (same as the Cut Special options).
