Be Like Pluto
Hi there Everything was working ok on Friday. I was using Cakewalk, holding out on moving to Sonar until the last minute. I recently installed the Professional Version of CCleaner, to get my machine running better, as there were a lot of old drivers and suchlike. I am using Behringer U Phoria UMC 202HD guitar interface. Today when I tried to run Cakewalk, the Cakewalk Splash Screen appears for a second then disappears, then nothing happens. I thought perhaps my Cakewalk licence was now gone, as is coming, so i attempted to upgrade to Sonar. I ran Cakewalk Product Center 1.0.0.095, and this completed, but would not start the product centre app to allow me install Sonar. I had a look on some forums, then found ver 96 above, and the same thing happened. So I've looked on the forum and done a clean install, deleting all the cakewalk folders, with the exception of my project folders where my music is, and did the registry changes as instructed, as well as the %appdata% step, steps taken as per: Clean Install Cakewalk Sonar – Cakewalk Help Center. I've ran the actual exe and had a look on Task Manager but the exe does not ru. I am using: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro Version 10.0.19045 Build 19045 I am using MS Edge Version 139.0.3405.125 (Official build) (64-bit) I reran the product centre app and it still wont run and I cant install Sonar. I can only assume CCleaner has removed something that it should not have, but given I have carried out the steps required to perform a clean install, and it has not worked, what should i do now? Is this a known issue with the Product Center - - i dont understand why the exe is refusing to run. I have 4 years of work invested in Cakewalk, so this is quite a big deal for me. Thanks for any help or light you can share on this issue

Be Like Pluto
Is there any way I can bypass the Product Center App to download SONAR directly?
Gary Carey
That's a major pain, hope you get it sorted as soon as possible. This may not be relevant but it's easy to test. Have you tried using an InPrivate window in Edge? I use Chrome as my default browser and sometimes experience weird behaviour which using an Incognito window usually fixes. Be Like Pluto
OK so the issue appeared to be that CCleaner updated the following MS C++ redistributables: 2013 (x86) 12.0.40664, 2015 -2022 (x64) 14.44.35211 2015-2022 (x86) 14.44.35211 Modifying >> Repairing these allowed the Product Center Setup to run.

Noel Borthwick Posted yesterday at 04:07 AM Share Posted yesterday at 04:07 AM Please beware of running these cleaner tools without creating a backup or restore point. Removing redists can cause many apps and plugins to crash. 2
Canopus Posted yesterday at 06:10 AM Share Posted yesterday at 06:10 AM The only time I've ever used a registry cleaner (Norton Utilities, some 10+ years ago) I ended up having to restore my system using a cloned disk copy. That was fun. Not. Simple rule: If it works, don’t clean it. And even if it doesn’t, don’t clean it.
Noel Borthwick
I’ve used CCleaner exclusively filtered to clean the registry but always saved a backup. Sometimes it will remove entries used by plugins because it doesnt know how stuff is being used.

Starship Krupa
On 9/4/2025 at 11:02 AM, Be Like Pluto said: I recently installed the Professional Version of CCleaner, to get my machine running better Doing a cleanup on a Windows system is not a bad thing to do. Programs like CCleaner that do it on autopilot can, as you discovered, lead to unintended consequences. I'm sure that there are settings in CCleaner Pro that will allow you to bypass certain procedures such as messing with your redistributables. CCleaner apparently believes that everything should run fine with only the very latest redistributables installed, and that's clearly not the case. Other than that issue, have you found your system to be "running better" after using CCleaner? There are many Windows tweaks that a user can do to extend the life of older PC's. Simple ones like disabling visual effects that look neato but actually just make things take longer to execute. Power plan settings. BIOS settings.
