Where's the Local Help download for Sonar?

But the local help file is not the pdf reference, but a file called Sonar.chm, stored in Sonar's program folder. It was initially not available for Sonar Free Tier, but, according to a recent post, support has responded to a request that it was "actively working on resolving it for a future update." I don't know if that has happened yet.

Download for local help in Sonar will show on the Product Updates tab of the Start Screen. Just make sure you then set the option to use the local help in the Preferences.

I've been hoping for this, but not seeing it here in spite of having the option set.

Update: When I set the local help option, it is unset the next time I open Sonar.

It doesn't sound like you've installed the Local Help then. Check the Product Updates tab of the Quick Start Screen and install Local Help. Once an update has been installed, it will disappear from the Product Updates tab on next open of the Start Screen.

That's the problem -- local help doesn't appear on the update tab.

guys,

What you need to download is an executable file, SonarHelp_Documentation_1.0.021.exe .  I encountered this same problem with Local Help earlier this year, wrote to support@ cakewalk.com and several days later it appeared under Product Updates.  I did this back in February, to integrate it into the paid version of Sonar.  Someone on the staff should be able to tell you if this executable file for Local Help has been updated since then.  Hope you have success.

We are being told in this thread that local help can be installed via Product Updates, but for some of us it simply doesn't show up there. Does everyone who wants to use local help have to contact Cakewalk Support?

henkejs,

I certainly hope not.  I can't tell you if it was integrated into Sonar after 2025.02, but if  a number of users/members are unable to find it in versions as recent as 2025.08 then something is wrong.  I hope someone on the staff or one of the developers can clear this up.  Local Help has always been included in SONAR and CbB and it should remain a part of Sonar.  Users/members should not have to download it as an additional feature or product.

I got Local Help to finally install via Cakewalk Product Center.  It took some effort to get this far.  But now if I check it on in preferences, the check mark is gone the next time I start Sonar.   And if I do F1 it always takes me to online help.  I do have "Cakewalk Help & Documentation" showing installed in Add Remove Programs.
