"Replace Synth" option: Two entries for Cakewalk Sound Center

Dave G

Question

When I right-click a track and select "Replace Synth", the sub-menu lists two entries for Cakewalk Sound Center. My installation is quite clean and there's no reason it should show two of these.

Within the "Utilities - Cakewalk Plug-in Manager" menu, the only instance of CSC is one entry within the Plug-in Category "VST Instruments (VSTi)".

Why are there two, and is it possible to remove one? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I can't get Sonar to show more than one instance of a synth in the Recent list. It may well be a bug in CbB that's been fixed.

I can, but I attribute that to user error.  Some time ago (past year or so) I installed Dim Pro 1.2 and Dim Pro 1.5 trying to see if one of them would work.  So, 1.2 kicks up an installation error and doesn't make a sound while 1.5 doesn't kick up a error and can play play a sound.  I assume that removing 1.2 from being scanned I might not be able to get what looks like a duplicate in the recently opened list.

Confirmed.  Thanks for raising this issue; removing the Dimension Pro 1.2 has been on my to-do list for a little while.

FWIW; I renamed Dimension Pro64.dll Dimension Pro64.wasdll and did a rescan.

The OP is using an older version of CbB with the old file menu structure which may have shown multiple instances in the Recent list.  But the latest versions with the new file menu structure don't.  SPlat and older SONAR versions don't either AFAICT.

One reason to leave older versions installed is for opening old projects that used them without throwing a "missing plug-in" error.  Even if it's dead, you may be able to retrieve preset and other settings it was using before replacing it.

@Dave GYou could try locating the dll and temporarily change the extension to dl- or something, then reopen Cakewalk, rescan and check the Plug-in Manager entries for it.  If it's still there, you may have 2 copies.  If it's gone, something weird's going on.

Thank you for the responses. The need for resolution merely comes from my OCD.

I'll look into it. Thanks! :)

EDIT: I just hit on something completely obvious. David Baay mentioned "Recent List". I should've figured that's what the list is, because why else would only the last four plug-ins used be listed there? LOL.

I didn't even think of that. So this isn't necessarily a bug, it's by design.

:)
