Sonar 2025.08 Feedback

Recommended Posts

I solved the TTS-1 issue. I had dust off an old laptop with Sonar installed, search around for all of the TTS-1, compared everything and restored the missing modules. The old Sonar seems so much cleaner and faster than the recent version. I didn't have to wait a minute for an annoying nag screen either. 😉   Too bad it's missing a few features the new one has.

Now I am focusing on GroovePlayer. Although, I don't really use it, the error messages are messy.

Actually it was deleted by the Bandlab de-install. It worked perfectly before that.

Glen, do you have any helpful insights as to how I get it back? I have thousands of hours of time spent on projects that have now been rendered useless.

Roland actually requested that Cakewalk stop providing the installer for TTS-1 as they no longer support it. However if you have an old SONAR installer you can install it from there, just do a custom install. Then reinstall the new Sonar to reinstall the more recent shared libraries.

Thanks for the information. I appreciate the help, thank you.

I had a valid install of this but it was on an older version of Sonar. I was able to copy the files over without this. But it may be handy in the future when they update Sonar again and break things again. 😄

I looked a doing the custom install but it doesn't have a GroovePlayer option. That one is broken too. I'm still working on it. The metronome doesn't do anything.

@dreamcache are you referring to the layout within Sonar? If so are you using Workspaces? The layout is dictated by the Workspace, to fix your problem you have to options.

1. Don't use Workspaces set your Workspace to none.

2. Once you have arranged your windows save your Workspace.

Note plugins will all was open where the last one was closed, irrespective of the plugin.

No, I mean the main Cakewalk window itself. You can see in the video I linked that when I boot up Cakewalk it opens in a really small window hidden behind the quick start window rather than the full sized window that I have to adjust it to. My "feature request" so to speak is that when I open cakewalk the main full window that appears matches the same size and position as it was in when I last closed the program i.e. at the end of my recorded video.

As far as I can tell, it isn't possible to do that currently, and I just feel like it's surely something that every user would benefit from, right? Who doesn't want their window to return to its last position? I struggle to think of a situation where you wouldn't want that. There may be one, but I have to think the majority of users aren't in that boat.

@dreamcache, do you use the same template for all your projects? If so try using a different one. Personally the main Cakewalk window opens exactly where I closed it.

What size monitor are you using? Do you have windows text scaling enabled?

I notice in your video you are letting Windows auto resize the main Cakewalk Window, what happens if you manually resize by dragging the window to you preferred size?

My Projects does not Stop at End Marker, Which does before. Should I submit a bug Report?

I just tried this here and my projects (this ones I tested) stopped at the end marker (one that I placed in the middle of the project.

Is this happening with any of your projects or just one?

I would love it if Cakewalk remembered the placement and size of its last known window placement and resumed that positioning when re-opening the program. I work on an ultrawide monitor, and I have to manually lay out my windows every single time I open the software.

See here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/19e9RaI3HgAtVOoHzXDKrQxjoIu9lepl_/view?usp=sharing

I know it's a small issue to complain about, but having to do this every time seriously adds up for me.

I see this too.  I didn't think much of it until you mentioned it. I just have a normal secondary monitor. None of my previous Cakewalk versions did this.

I just discovered another unexpected behavior. When I open a virtual controller (keyboard), it will trigger all soft synths in my project instead of the one that's track highlighted. If I mute everything but the synth I want or solo the track, it only plays one synth as expected. It might be useful I guess. But,  none of the previous Cakewalk versions did this.

Are you using the Free Tier or the Membership version of Sonar?

Are you using Workspaces? (you need Bandlab Membership for this)

If you are using Workspaces, then by default, these can load Windows Layouts. You can change this for a given workspace.  Of course, if you’re using Sonar Free Tier, then this does not apply.

Is the screenset you are using locked?

Yeah, I use a custom template file that I created and periodically update. But this issue occurs immediately upon starting the Cakewalk program, well before I've opened a project file or anything.

I use an Odyssey G9 57" monitor, so I recognize that I'm an edge case as far as that goes, but I don't think this issue is related to this specific monitor. Maybe all ultrawide monitors? My scaling is set to 150% but not sure how that would affect the window sizing. Would it...?

Oh and I just tried manually resizing it instead of dragging it– I can't believe it but that actually worked! 🤦‍♂️ How do I get it to completely fill the left half of my monitor though? And is that considered a bug with Cakewalk or Windows?

EDIT: I played around with it more and it does seem like a bug with window snapping. Manual adjustments to the main window are remembered by Cakewalk, but whenever I try to snap a window into place it goes back to the previous manual adjustment on the next startup.

I do pay for the membership, yeah.

How do you configure the Windows Layouts in Workspaces? I haven't seen anything about that anywhere, but that sounds promising. I'm just looking for a simple left half/right left screen layout, so nothing complicated.

Which screenset are you referring to? I'm not familiar with that

@dreamcache I had exactly the same issue with my Samsung Galaxy 43 Mini LED UHD gaming monitor. Not only Cakewalk but other programs did not reopen in the samecsize or location. I susit my be a driver issue withnthe monitor.

I gave up with it in the end. I now use 2 Viewsonic 32" UHD monitors, no problems at all.

For the Workspace you are using, select that workspace.

Then open “Manage Workspaces”.  This is where you can configure that specific Workspace.

In your case, in the right hand pane, under “Load from Workspace” deselect “Windows Layout”.  (for mine, I also deselect “Keyboard Shortcuts”).   Then click “Apply”, then “OK”

Now when you load that Workspace, your Windows Layout from that Workspace will load and therefore will not change.

Regarding Screensets:

Under the “View” menu, the last item is “Screensets”, drill down to see the actual screensets.

If any have a padlock to the left of the name, then that screenset is locked.

It should be noted that, by default, screensets are not locked, so this may not apply to you - unless you intentionally (or accidentally) locked your default screenset.  ALT+SHIFT+L toggle the current screenset lock status.

Note: I do actually lock my screensets to prevent accidental windows layout changes from being applied.
