How can I set the metronome for compound time signatures like 12/8 or 6/8?

For example, 12/8 should have 4 metronome clicks (dotted quarter notes), not 12 clicks of eighth notes.

I know there is a subdivision feature. But it can only sub-divide the beats (2 or 3 or 4 clicks per beat). I can't find any way to slow it down, like 2 or 3 beats per click.

In Cubase there is a click pattern editor like this. Do we have a similar thing in Sonar?

I'd be inclined to make your own click track, using samples from whatever drum vsti you've got

Anything with a sharp attack & decay will work fine and you can place the hits on the grid wherever you want.

Use a different sample for accents

Groove clip the clip & drag it out for as many measures as you want

Sonar's metronome allows you to set a different tones for the first and subsequent beats of a measure, this is visible on the Metronome tab of the Preferences. Beyond this, you'd want to create a loop with the desired emphasis on different beats.

The step sequencer works well for this. Use the SI drums or Session drums for the track.
Session drums has tons of different samples you can add to the octapad thing.

I remember having to do this when trying to make a Clave beat.
