Michael Hommel
I have been using Cakewalk Sonar X1 since it came out however many years ago it was. First I used it in WIN 7 then I switched to WIN 10. It worked great for me. I decided to upgrade to WIN 11 and now it won't launch. I know that the first answer is for me to upgrade to a DAW. But I'm an old dog, and don't really want to learn new tricks. Anyway, When I try to open it , it starts for a few seconds scanning the VST's but disappears before the program actually starts. And that's it. As suggested, I've tried deleting and reinstalling the redistribution C+ files several times with no success. Any ideas so I can just get back to recording instead of trying to be a tech wiz? Thanks in Advance
Bristol_Jonesey
If you upgrade to the new Sonar - Free or Sub - you will find that 99% of what you see in X1 is still there and in exactly the same place. You would also benefit from many new features along with many hundreds of bug fixes and enhancements If you do this, do not delete X1, the new software will automatically pick up your old plugins, settings and projects. msmcleod
You may find that Sonar X1 requires older VC++ redistributables, as the "rollup" redists only cover VS2015 - VS2022. Sonar X1 was released in 2011. You can find the older ones here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170 Be aware though, that redists prior to 2015 are no longer officially supported in Windows 11. In saying that, Sonar X2 is working fine here on my Windows 11 machine (upgraded from Windows 10). I've got the redists for VS2005, VS2008, VS2010, VS2012, VS2013 and the VS2015-2022 installed. If you're going to install them, start at VS2005 and make your way forward, finally re-installing the latest VS2015-2022 redists.
John Vere
Yep. X3 works great. In my opinion X1 was the most bug infested version ever. I stayed away from it until X3 came out. Old dogs can learn new tricks. Give your self a few days and you’ll soon forget X1 even existed. As said not much in the general interface has really changed that much. If you choose to waist a lot of time trying to get X1 working that time is probably best spent just learning how New Sonar works.
Bristol_Jonesey
From memory, I think it was only when the X1d update hit that it became somewhat stable on my rig.
