An Idea?

Since there are a lot of us who are fond of the old CbB for various reasons and since many people spent hours and hours customizing themes and workflows to suit their needs, why not keep the old version available alonside the new Sonar for subscribers only. It would mean folks who do not or have not financially supported Cake in the past would need to migrate to the new free version whilst Bandlab members have the option of Sonar and all the new features and updates or a final steady state version of CbB. Just a thought.

It would probably increase the number of subscribers. Also, keeping a non-maintained version of BandLab available for subscribers, would hardly result in any significant cost to BandLab. When tools are made available to make more adjustments to the Sonar GUI, the need for a such a work-around would probably disappear.

What's not to like?

That’s actually a brilliant idea. Win win.
Put your money where your mouth is sort of thing.
Bandlab gets members and we all get a version with themes.
Lots of software developers leave legacy versions available unsupported for people who have licenses due to needing that version because of OS and hardware compatibility.
But judging by their reaction to the question they seem very firm about getting rid of Cakewalk for good.

There’s the option we talked about 2 years ago was simply sell us Cakewalk outright. We would quietly go away and leave them alone.

It would be very interesting to see those statistics that they have been gathering for 8 years now.

This would certainly be my preference, as noted on other threads. No support, no updates but perpetual activation - for those who maintain a BL membership. Frankly, it would put an end to my current search for DAW alternatives. I went ahead and purchased a membership, which I would certainly keep if CbB remained an option. I can't see Sonar's vector graphics solution ever winning me over. If I find another DAW, I can't see renewing BL, as much as I love Cakewalk.
