Activation Failed

Found the fix: They changed the activation backend/server in 29.09.0.120, therefore why older versions results in a (1, 401)/HTTP 401 Unauthorized error. Need to go to https://www.bandlab.com/products/cakewalk/, and download the (update) installer there, and run it. Don't bother to do this through the discontinued desktop app or Cakewalk itself, it also results in the same "(1, 401)" error. After it finishes updating, launch Cakewalk and ensured your still signed in, and you should be activated. Luckily it looks like activation for early Cakewalk by BandLab will be still here. For now.

Thanks.  This post explains it.  Must upgrade to 2024.12.  I was on 2024.07 so it finally caught up with me.

Still no explanation why uploads aren't working tho.

this is just frustrating.  i liked the version i had.  being railroaded into updating to a whole new gui and layout is going to set me back whilst i figure out how to navigate that environment.
backwards compatability at the server end is not a difficult thing.  why make us update instead of simply encouraging it?

@jmmakesmusic, thanks so much for this. I got into a loop on an older PC. Cakewalk wouldn't authenticate, so I tried offline authentication using my main PC - which had worked several times in the past, but now complained that the version of Cakewalk wasn't supported, so needed to update. I tried that and... 401 😆

Thanks to you I'm out of that loop. I'm using the older PC as it has a Soundblaster Audigy 2 with the external box, which has enough inputs to allow recording of 4-track cassettes from a PortaStudio into Cakewalk.
