Fitzy65 Posted yesterday at 06:15 AM Share Posted yesterday at 06:15 AM I have imported several backing track stems into Cakewalk and also have a click track in there as well. I want to use the backing track with a live band. So I have panned the click track and backing stemsto the hard left and just another backing track stem to the hard right. Therefore when played in a live performance I will organise the click (Left Pan) to go to the drummers headphones and the backing (Panned right) to go to the front of house. So I did this, played it back in Cakewalk with my studio speakers and indeed it sounded and panned as I wanted to. I then exported the mix to my hard drive. I then played it through Media Player and also tried Itunes and it comes out even on both right and left. I have been playing around with this for two days and its doing my head it. I tried another DAW and the same thing happened. Any ideas would be greatful.
Chaps Posted yesterday at 06:35 AM Share Posted yesterday at 06:35 AM Are you bouncing everything to a stereo track and then exporting that track or exporting the entire mix? Can you post a screen capture of your export options window?
msmcleod Posted yesterday at 06:49 AM Share Posted yesterday at 06:49 AM Do you have Spatial Sound or any sound enhancements enabled in Windows? If these are enabled, then they'll be applied when playing through Media Player.

I have also tried two stereo stems and exporting them as stereo as shown. Im confused as.

Do not discount msmcleod's idea yet. As an experiment I exported a song in stereo and played it in Winamp (my audio player of choice) and it played normally in stereo. Then I changed my Windows Audio setting to Mono and rebooted. My Cakewalk project still plays normally in Stereo but when I play the exported audio file in Windows Media Player the song plays in Mono. So double check your Windows Audio Settings and make sure it is set to STEREO so you can either correct it or rule it out. Don't forget to reboot if you make any changes. Your screencap doesn't show the Stereo/Mono option but it should be in there somewhere. We may be using different Windows versions. Here is what it looks like in my Windows 11: Edited 17 hours ago by Chaps

Bristol_Jonesey
One thing I noticed in your Export dialog is that you're exporting at 16 bit with no dithering. If your original project was 24 bit then you'll probably need to apply dithering during the export.
