Portamento, Theremin style

Hi all,

Which synth would you recommend if I wish to use a Theremin-like sound, please?

The sound, a clean sine wave, should be easily found. But I do not seem to find a good way to have the portamento.

I tried out Z3TA+2, Vacuum Pro (which gives a very low output, I almost can't hear anything), Cakewalk Sound Center...

Or is it none of them and I'd need another plugin, please? (If so, which one?)

Have you tried any VSTs that are focused specifically on Theremin? I did a quick search for that and #1 on this list might be a good candidate (and is free).

Long ago when I wanted a theremin sound, I used Mysteron by FxPansion.  I had a touch screen monitor back then, which made it pretty fun to mess around with.   

 

But you could also use a joystick-to-MIDI adapter and "driver" program like this https://www.fergonez.net/softwares/fjoymidi or others easily found in a websearch.

Thanks, all for your helpful replies. I checked - and I love that Spook Keys thing, although it is 20 years old (but works fine on my Win 11, 24H2 machine)!
