Cakewalk Sonar. What have I gained. Nothing ?

I have used Sonar for 20 years and remained loyal. I paid my fee to go from Bandlab to Sonar. Can anyone tell me what I have gained. All I can see is changes to the graphics which I was ok with anyway.  Seems there has been no major functionalities updates for such a long long time. Can Sonar tell me what is planned. I took a look at the other Windows DAWs and it seems a swap is even woth such a big learning curve at my age and would bring me such better and new functionality.   Am I grumpy or just holding on to a decision I made all those years ago and need to cut my losses  now.  I hope not ???

I am pretty sure there is a post / topic that answers your question (What new functionality has been introduced in Cakewalk Sonar?). I will see if I can find it for you.

UPDATE: Have you looked at the posts here?

What specific things did you need that it doens't have or do?

What do the other daws have that you require that Sonar doesn't?

Those are the questions I'd be asking myself before upgrading, changing, or switching, from anything to anything (software, hardware, job, etc).

If there's nothing specific that you need that's different from what you already had, there's not a need to change or upgrade.

You can still do so if you wish, but for myself, I wouldn't want to.

Do you do a lot in with MIDI or mainly audio?

Remember, rather than be apparent on the surface, a lot of the enhancements can be under the bonnet - the underlying code can be more efficient.

For instance, with CbB, Aftertouch events are not chased.  In Sonar 2025, they are.

In CbB, with Articulation Maps, only Note Articulations are chased.   In Sonar 2025, all Event Articulations are chased

In Sonar, the PRV has been optimised.

In Sonar, you can edit Polyphonic Aftertouch events in the PRV.  Not so in CbB.

You have to look deeper....

It's is demonstrably incorrect to say that, with Cakewalk Sonar, you have gained nothing.

My favorite things about NuSonar are the ability to monitor resource usage per plug-in and I like the new UI in general.

As far as other DAW's, I find it prudent and desirable to stay versed in a secondary one along with my main.

Features complementary, one never knows what will happen as far as company longevity, etc.

It does seem like I can use lower latency setting with Sonar than I was able to in Bandlab.  And that is a big thing.

I do think there might be some issues with the latest Sonar update(s).  But it appears they are working on hard on more updates.  Updates have been fairly consistent.

I do not think there are updates to Bandlab like there is with Sonar.

And frankly, paying some $$ to Bandlab is an incentive for Bandlab to continue Sonar with the prospect that computer operating systems are not locked in for life, and at some point, we may all be grateful, that Bandlab can still allocate staff resources for the continuance of Sonar through those operating system changes.

Please don't feed the trolls. First thing I do when I see questions like this is look in the users profile. 1 post, asked a question was answered, never returned until today just to troll.

This is why I am glad I can hide specific posts on here. (Stylish)

Since I replied to the OP, I must assume you were being critical of my decision to reply.

To be honest, I often give people the benefit of the doubt. Yes, the OP could have been trolling, but I saw no harm in posting a link to a thread that contained a lot of information about what's new in Cakewalk Sonar.

Please note, while I could have been judgmental of your post, I also gave you the benefit of the doubt. Maybe you didn't intend to be critical of my decision to reply politely to someone you felt was a troll. I have no fool-proof way of knowing your intent.

I understand  the TS = topic starter.

The problem seems to me to be about "deeper". The responses reminds me of an exclusive club trying to keep the trash out.

Make new "shallow" functions. There's plenty of ideas in the feedback forum.

While even a forum noob could figure out what TS stand for OP isn't logical in the sense that the letters don't stand for words that can be found in the forum. Thus keeping the trash out and feeling dumb.

Sorry, i hate anything that have the exclusive club looks. I understand that you all just copies what other do and don't mean anything bad about it.

The abbreviation OP has been around for decades on online forums. It means "original poster." To my knowledge, it's known more widely than TS.

As far as sincere replies to possible/probable "troll" posts, I don't see anyone feeding the troll, rather, sincere attempts to list things that we think Sonar has over Cakewalk by BandLab. Sincere positive messages in response to inflammatory statements are actually starving the troll, because no fight broke out.
