Break the stubborn love of control data and smart tools

I have been drawing control 11 and 1, and pitch wheel data in Cakewalk and Sonar for over 20 years. Their curves were free, elegant, and delicate, and the performance results they expressed were on a level that surpassed Herbert von Karajan's performance. Then, one day, after Cakewalk BandLab, SmartTools began to cling to control data and their love eventually gave birth to irritation in my soul.

Of course, I know that I can use the Draw tool in Cakewalk, but then I have to press Snap off at the same time. Then, to return to SmartTools, I have to press Snap on again. It's driving me crazy because I have to press two shortcut keys.

In comparison, in Cubase and Studio One, such infidelity is easily resolved by pressing the Alt or Control key.

I propose the following new features:
1) When drawing control data with SmartTools, please add an option to choose whether or not it is attached to the control data. 2) Or, it would be nice if it could automatically switch to Snap Off state only when the Draw tool is selected.
3) And, please allow us to change the colors of the Measure and Beat lines in the piano roll view.

You mean you release the left-click, and the controller continues to follow the pointer? For the benefit of the Bakers, what are exact steps and conditions to reproduce it?

I think he means that, when the Smart Tool is selected and you move the mouse pointer to a single controller event, the mouse wants to edit that single controller event.  What he is asking for is a key modifier that prevents the mouse pointer attaching to a single controller event, but to go to a draw function instead.  When he goes to the Draw Tool, he has to deselect Snap (or press N)

Personally I just leave “snap to grid” off

I have mapped "S" to the Smart Tool and "D" to the Draw.  Being next to each other means these keys are near the left hand and I can do a quick toggle between Smart Tool and Draw and back.
