Switch a VST automatically. Guitar player.

Is there a way to have Amplitube switch programs (preset) in the middle of a song automatically within my DAW (cakewalk)?

Let's say I want to change preset Sans to 80's at measure 12 then back to Sans at measure 22.

Thank you,

Craig

Are any of the envelopes (automation) you can add for it in the track for the preset / program?

If so, then you can just use the envelope to do this.

Does the plugin accept MIDI controls?   Is one of those for preset/program?

If so, you can send it a MIDI command from a track that feeds it's MIDI input port/channel.

Amplitube will accept MIDI input, so you can either use a MIDI controller/stomp box to assign program numbers (for live usage, via MIDI learn), or use a MIDI track to feed Amplitube with the program changes you want (this won't work for playing live, but will do what you are asking in the OP). In Cakewalk, after loading Amplitube, create a new MIDI track and have it output to Amplitube (if it doesn't have that option, be sure Amplitube is set to accept MIDI input.... click on drop down at the top of the Amplitube VST window where is says "VST2" (or "VST3") and select "Enable MIDI Input").

If you see "VST3", that most probably will not work. You need VST2.

The problem is that Amplitube VST3 is not reacting on PC (at least for me, and as you can find in the Internet for other as well...) and Amplitube can only change to arbitrary preset using PCs. That is not Cakewalk specific.

But if you want "Next/Previous" preset, that can be done by CCs (and so it works with VST3).

PS. In general, changing presets "on the fly" is rarely perfect approach. That only works without glitches in case plug-in can change presets "instantly", so when there are just several parameters and everything is already in RAM. That is not the case with most plug-ins since they need to load something on preset change. And the result can be "old preset still works for a while after preset switch", clicks/pops or other glitches in sound and in some cases audio drop...

So, if switch should be reliable during performance, it is better choose other approaches.

One is make a preset which includes required variations and then control these variations. F.e. just some parameter.

If you use completely different presets, you can have more then one instance of plug-in, each with static preset. And then you change routing on the fly, switching which instance get input at particular time. Note that consumes more RAM and CPU.

what controller are you using to trigger the change?
