Cakewalk Update Download in Progress, doesn't actually download

MusicOConnor

Question

I have gotten this on and off for the past couple of years. Most times I am able to eventually get the download to start, to show a percentage of progress after restarting the app a few times.

Since the latest update download has been available, it will not start the actual download. Just sits there on the Downloading Screen and shows no progress %. If I try to Download the Update again via the Help tab, it will give me an error saying the download is already in progress. But it really isn't downloading.

I've made sure to be logged into Bandlab, turned off firewalls, rebooted the PC many times, can't get it to start.

Any ideas?

I have always had zero issues downloading Cakewalk, Sonar or any of its updates.

What version of Windows?  Is it fully patched?

Is your internet rock solid? - no drop outs, etc

You have disabled all firewalls..... what about antivirus and/or VPN? - disabled those too (I use Malwarebytes Premium 5 realtime protection - still no issues)

Is this with an ethernet cable between your PC and your router (IE not wireless)

Are you able to try on a PC with a fresh install of Windows?

What is your download speed according to https://speedtest.net

Hello!

Thank you for the quick reply! Everything works great with Cakewalk other than this. It generally runs very well on this PC. I love it.

***After I ran through your questions, it dawned on me that I didn't try the download just on WiFi instead of wired. Well, well, well... it worked. So, that is an interesting development that I will need to dive into.  Thank you so much for forcing me through this exercise. Issue resolved!

What version of Windows?  Is it fully patched?

- Yep, all up to date - Win11 Home - 24H2.  AMD Ryzen 7 4800H / 32GB RAM / 64bit

- No VPN. Disabled all firewalls.

I find it best in situations where both wired and wireless connections are available to make sure that Windows is only using the connection I want to use. With notebooks, there's usually an automatic switching back and forth, but not always. With my desktop, I always have to manually disable the wifi adapter when I'm plugged in.

I'm not sure why it causes problems, but I think that sometimes Windows doesn't know which adapter to use and switches to the other one. If it switches in the middle of downloading a file, wacky hijinks such as what you are experiencing may ensue.

Choose one or the other, and make sure it's the ONLY one enabled.
