midi track no sound

Yesterday I reinstalled Cakewalk by bandlab. And then I open the midi file and play, I cannot hear any sound. Does anybody know how to solved this problem?

 What synth are you using to play the midi with, and how is it routed to your speakers?

Meaning:

Are you routing the midi to a hardware synth or keyboard outside your computer?

Or are you routing the midi to an internal softsynth inside CbB?

Details on how your midi is routed to the synth, and how your synth is then routed to your speakers, will help us help you figure out where the problem is and how to fix it.

I use Windows 11 to edit MIDI tracks and do not use other hardware. But I use VST the sound I can hear.  I want to open a MIDI file to play, but I cannot hear the sound. The MIDI driver seems to have a problem it loses the GW synth, but I do not know how to fix this problem.

What specific synth is "GW synth"?   

Is it a separate piece of software you're running outside CbB?   

Or is it a synth within CbB?

 

 

What MIDI driver do you have installed on the computer?

And what software outside of CbB are you trying to route it to?

Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth

The midi file is download from some website. I can play use other app.

I did not install special MIDI driver.

You are referring to the Windows General MIDI wavetable synth, which does not function in CbB or Sonar... only in the Windows environment. 

Pre 2017 there was a Roland GM synth included with paid SONAR that is no longer available either... called TTS-1.

Search in these forums for posts & links to 3rd party GM sound generators, some of which are free, some inexpensive. 

FYI; CbB/Sonar is a professional grade Digital Audio Workstation software and should be used with an external Audio Interface that comes with a real ASIO driver.

I had found TTS-1 on https://archive.org/details/TTS-1/Help/Gif/index_e-1.gif. But I do not know how to use it.

Did you ever own an older version of Cakewalk or Sonar that came with TTS-1?

The simple answer is Sonar and Cakewalk no longer include a GM synth and for some reason they also disconnected the MS Wavetable synth. If they had left that alone there would have been a solution until they sort out the lacking player. 
Lots of Daw’s support midi GM playback including Cakewalk Next. If this is important to you then I suggest you use a Daw that supports GM playback.

I don't know if the TTS-1 version you found on the Internet will work, but I think you should try it! To do this, you need to unzip what you downloaded to a folder called "TTS-1", copy the entire folder, and place it along the route:
 

C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared DXi.

Then run Sonar (Cakewalk by Bandlab), scan VST plugins, and perhaps (!) you will have this great tool.

If this does not work, then there is another, reliable and proven method: find the full installer of Sonar version 30.05.0.493 on the Internet, and install it, it also contained an installer for TTS-1. And then you just install on top (!) the latest version of Sonar (Cakewalk by Bandlab), and TTS-1 will remain installed.

Note: Before installing the old version of Sonar, you will need to delete the folder that you manually placed in the specified path.

 

If you succeed (either way), you will need to assign MIDI outputs from all MIDI tracks to TTS-1 in the project (on different MIDI channels), only then will all MIDI tracks sound.
