Gswitz
Someone airtagged my daughters car while she was at best buy. Tucked it down near the windshield wipers. Her phone warned her some hours later and she found it. WT F yall! I'm too old for this world.
bitflipper
That is creepy. Even if it turns out to just be a prank by friends, it's still creepy. Too bad there isn't a reverse-lookup feature for airtags. Or maybe there is...you could mail it to somebody in Europe and then wait for somebody to ask her about her vacation. 2
Jesse Screed
Tracking down the tracker There's no way for you, the user, to readily find the owner of an AirTag unless they've put it in Lost Mode and left you a message — or if you tell law enforcement. If police ask Apple to identify an AirTag serial number, Apple will do it. https://appleinsider.com/articles/21/05/04/what-to-do-when-you-find-an-airtag

Yeah, I would go that route, especially since that is mostly likely not a off-off scenario (they did it before and/or intend to do it again) and was very much intentional. I had a coworker who had a "friend" that kept showing up where she was. She said her phone was getting hot, and turned out this friend had enabled "friend tracking" or some such on Facebook when she had walked away from her phone (while this person was at her house visiting). She didn't want to follow up with an investigation (people are so weird when they are victims of crimes), but that incident shouldn't just be ignored. You have no clue what the ultimate intent of that person was for doing that, and that is the really scary part.

Amberwolf
A quck google found this on reddit (yeah, a bastion of truth and reality  ) for an instance where someone tagged a vehicle: https://www.reddit.com/r/AirTags/comments/17vjfac/just_found_an_airtag_hidden_in_my_truck_how_can_i/ Quote Corey415 •1 yr. ago “Every AirTag has a unique serial number, and paired AirTags are associated with an Apple ID. Apple can provide the paired account details in response to a subpoena or valid request from law enforcement. We have successfully partnered with them on cases where information we provided has been used to trace an AirTag back to the perpetrator, who was then apprehended and charged.” https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2022/02/an-update-on-airtag-and-unwanted-tracking/
