need a way to easily switch between multiple midi instruments tracks (kindly ans asap)

Bhargav Lad

Question

I have to use 2 keyboard midi controllers for a live performance. All the patches I'll be using are VSTs and I will control it through CWbBL inside the daw.

At one point in the song, I have change instrument tracks on both my controllers, how can I do this??

Is there way to Toggle 'echo input' on multiple tracks easily? Is there a way to map echo input to certain keys or make hotkeys? Maybe even using some external application or anything.

For eg. what I thought was:

I can make a folder of intrument tracks, and I'll have multiple folders like this, then as the song progresses, I'll just use my arrow keys to switch folders and the echo input will be toggled for every track in that folder.

but that didnt work as I thought.

kindly help.

Use groups and remote control on the Input echos.  I tested it here in CbB and it works fine.

As a test, I performed the following.  (Took me about 1 minute).

I created two SITs - one with Arturia Piano V3 and the other with Arturia Juno 6.  I grouped the input Echos of both SITs and set them to Custom.  The start value and end value of the piano were set to 0 and 1 and the juno 6 were set to 1 and 0.  I mapped CC74 to remote control on the piano’s input Echo.

I was then able to switch between the Piano and the Juno 6 by moving the CC74 knob on my PCR-800 while playing live.

I used Cakewalk as a VST host for live gigs a year ago. It took a bit of head scratching to find what would work and not screw up on me mid gig.

The solution was each VST  was a different Midi channel.

All I had to do was Switch to the desired channel to play any given Synth.

There is a GLOBAL INPUT ECHO.

Then used Midi learn and I had control over each tracks volume as well as an effect send.

My Keyboard can be split and send on 2 different midi channels. Or I can layer 2 channels.

Using 2 keyboards is only a matter of setting the instrument tracks to Omni or? I have 3 Keyboard controllers.  But I really didn't see what a second controller would add if the one controller has the right options.

This is by far the easiest method.

I used this method live for years with hardware gear - just set all your instruments to different MIDI channels, then change the MIDI channel of the controllers.

There were exceptions of course, where I needed to change patches instead using a program change, but the MIDI channel method worked for most scenarios.
