Walked Into a Bar...

To see my friend Nate's band, Noctomb, play. Metal stuff. At Chapel of Bones in Raleigh.
Four bands, each played about 4 songs, which was okay since each song seemed to be 11 minutes long.
Man, was it loud! My clothes were moving from the sound pressure. Thank goodness my ears are already damaged beyond repair. Still, I sought out some earplugs later.
There's no doubting their talent, though. The first 'band' was a man on guitar and a woman singing and drumming. I think you would have to be smoking opium to fully enjoy them. BPMs of 24 or so. It was good, for a while. The guy was playing a Danelectro.
Two other 4-piece groups, the singer/guitarist of one looked like he just climbed down off the tractor onto the stage. He rocked! Not unusual in NC, I bet.
Noctomb is a trio, and Nate was playing a beautiful, old Gibson SG that I really want.
The rhythm guitarist of band 2 was playing a Guild SG-style guitar, I think the first Guild I've ever seen in person. Has anyone here ever played one?
I enjoyed the whole night, even had a couple of beers.
Still, I was surprised how uncrowded it was on a Friday night. Good for me, I don't like crowds, but how did the bands get paid?

Kenny's new three-legged dog walks into a saloon, his spurs clinking as he walks, his six-shooter slapping at his furry hip. He bellies up to the bar, stares down the bartender, and proclaims, "I'm looking for the man who shot my paw."

Another oddity was the observed average age of the audience. I don't think there were more than 3-4 twenty-somethings in the joint. I think 45 would be the median age at that time. A few folks even older than me.

Bapu , Craigb , and Kenny walked into a bar .

The bartender asked Bapu if he was the one and only  Bapu with the high post count and Alembic .

When Bapu said yes he was , the bartender gave Bapu his blessing and said everything was on the house for him .

Next the bartender motioned for Craigb to come closer and sit on a stool right across from him .

He started studying and looking over Craigb .In a moment of recognition he said "Hey I know you "

"At one point you were making money hand over fist and you spent a good deal of that money at my brothers music store" "Because of you he was able to get married , have a few kids and buy his first house .

"It was sad day for all of us when we heard the IRS came after you ".

"For you my friend , you have my blessing "" Everything here is on the house for you to enjoy "

The bartender motions me over to where he was standing and asks me " Are you Kenny ?"

I say to myself silently , Wow how did he know my name ? I start thinking this is gonna be my night because the bartender is being super generous and now it's my turn.  So I say yes I'm Kenny and I play a mean guitar ....

The bartenders face lights up as he asks me if  I would be willing to do him a tremendous favor by playing a set or two for the cast of the television  show that was having a reunion party upstairs in the VIP lounge .

You don't have to ask me twice ....So off I went ....

Craigb and Bapu start whispering under their breath saying things like Kenny just made out like a phat rat in a cheese factory for having gotten himself a paying gig ..

After curiosity had gotten the better of  Bapu and Craigb   they ask the bartender what TV show is up there in the VIP room having their cast reunion party ?

The bartender leans in with a $hiteating grin on his face and says South Park of course .

RIP,

Kenny
