Sonar 2024 Overview

Hello!
This morning I installed this latest update, and was disappointed to discover several old bugs:
1. When trying to load a previously saved preset for ProChannel on several channels, Sonar crashes again, as it did in the previous version. When adding to each channel separately, everything works normally. I already wrote about this bug in the feedback of the previous version, and one of the developers assured me that this problem has already been solved in the next version.
2. When adding new modules to ProChannel, their names are not displayed at all, this is very inconvenient. This happens in all types of themes and color sets, I specifically went through literally all the available themes and colors. I am attaching a couple of .GIFs with screenshots from Sonar and Cakewalk to compare the display of adding modules:

Thanks for reporting these bugs, and apologies for the ongoing ProChannel crash issue. We'll try to resolve them ASAP.

So far we're unable to reproduce the ProChannel menu issue. Can you let us know your display configuration, please? For example: Primary/4K/175%/Left, Secondary/1080p/100%/Right. Also the Sonar 'Display Scale' setting in Preferences > Display.

Main display / 2K (2560x1440 32 '') / 100%. I use only one monitor, in the Sonar display scaling settings it is now 100%.  I do not have a discrete graphics card,  work on the built-in Intel UHD 630 Graphics. But the names of the modules in the menu when adding to ProChannel, have not been displayed for me since the very first version of Sonar in any of the available themes and color sets, before that I worked on a laptop with a 15.6-inch Full HD display. I am almost completely sure that the reason for this is not in my specific configuration, two of my friends have the same thing in different hardware, I specifically asked them. And on the same hardware with the same settings, in Cakewalk by Bandlab for me all this is displayed normally.

Hello! After adding a synthesizer, a copy of it appears with number 0 in the Piano Roll.

Same issue here. This would happen if you enable "Show Audio Tracks" in PRV, since version 2024.09.

(I actually have reported this bug in the feedback thread of the previous release)

Can you send the dump file as well as the specific order you are trying to load? This is going to be data specific so we need to get a repro.

I'm unable to successfully open a project that loads correctly in Cbb.

On trying to open the project, the last toast notification says "Project successfully opened" but the UI then freezes for a few minutes.  It then detects the crash (with crash code 'Application Hang') & saves a crash dump file, so that's something.

Noel can I send you the crash dump?

Yes, I am attaching the latest minidump of this error, although I tried to do the same thing several times this morning, and the result was the same. And another very unpleasant error was added to this one - I have now opened several projects saved in the previous version of Sonar, and it turns out that when trying to open ProChannel in the "Inspector" on any (!!!) audio and/or instrumental track, the ProChannel field is completely empty, and it is impossible to add any modules in any way, there is not even a menu with a "plus" icon at the top. I tried to create new audio/instrument tracks - the same thing happens, the "Inspector" field is completely empty and inoperable. If you open the mixer (console), then ProChannel is displayed and works fine.

I would send the dump. But try opening in safe mode, disabling each plugin in turn until you load successfully. PITA as you have to work through each plugin in turn, but it might aid them with solving the issue.

Thanks.  I just sent it before I saw your message 🙂

I gave it quite a few goes opening in safe mode with my best guesses but there's a ~200 plugin instances & I just haven't got the time at the moment!

Which leads me to a small feature request!

It'd be really nice to have a check list of used plugins when starting opening in safe mode, such that the plugins can be ticked/unticked to determine if they are loaded or not.  nb. not individual plugin instances but by the plugin itself.  This would massively speed up locating issues!

Any body clarify what this  misc. fix does?

"Improvements and optimizations for Mackie HUI control surface"

Thanks

Two things mainly:
  - Improve the Fader resolution / responsiveness in HUI mode
  - Fix send controls when using LaunchKey MK4 in HUI mode
