Cakewalk Not Supporting Certain FLAC Files

Question

Posted

While trying to load some stems into Cakewalk, I was given a message saying "Cannot play back the file. The format is not supported." This happened with a FLAC file which is weird because I know that FLACs usually work in Cakewalk. These FLACs in particular had been run through my file converter in order to reduce their file size from their previous WAV format. I'm wondering if there is a way to fix this issue or if maybe I should find another file converter. The one I've been using usually works really well though so...

Did you try playing a suspect file with another app? It is possible the conversion to FLAC did have an error. Any media player would help verify that. You might want to also check converting one that doesn't work back to WAV using the same converter.

does sonar/cbb convert the flac back to wav on import?

Yes. When you drag and drop ( import)  any media Cakewalk/Sonar automatically converts it to WAV at the projects sample rate. Only the bit depth is retained.

Try Gold Wave. It has a batch convertor that I've used for a long, long time now without issues. It's free to use with Nag screen on start up but I bought a lifetime license 15 years ago. I still get free upgrades.    https://www.goldwave.ca/

I think the file converter program I was using was producing corrupted files because I got a different one and the FLACs it made worked fine.
