GodinLG
Hi, I recently installed Cakewalk Sonar, I have been using Cakewalk Bandlab for about 3 years now .. I seem to get a lot of crackling with Cakewalk Sonar, I tried adjusting the Audio driver buffer size but same thing . I use a Focusrite 2i2 with the Focusrite ASIO driver and never had these issue with Cakewalk Bandlab .. But I recently noticed that I also get it if I'm only using Plugins and no Audio (guitar) .. Ex: I was using plugins from Kontakt, Analog Lab V and Ujam and noticed crackling. Its the same computer, its a ACER i7 with 12G, Windows 10 What settings could I adjust to reduce the crackling ? Any feedback is appreciated Thanks
Max Arwood
These 2 programs are very similar. Sonar is more efficient than cakewalk. If you are using ONLY the focusrite ASIO drivers, did you try 1024 latency? What version of Kontakt? How many libraries are you loading?
Terry Kelley
Turn off all effects and see if the noise cleans up. If so, turn off each effect separately and when it cleans up, there’s your problem. Do the same for instruments by freezing them (just muting won’t work.) I suspect you are overloading the processor. You might need to start freezing tracks. There are VSTs that are brutal to the processor. My i7-4790 had its limits. Have you redone the test with exactly the same settings and project file in both cbb and Sonar? Make sure that both programs are using the same driver mode and buffer sizes. If after doing the test you are still seeing a difference then send a link to the project file.
GodinLG
OK I seem to have found the culprit, if I freeze the Kontakt track the crackling is gone .. So it seem to be related to Kontakt .. I recently upgraded to Kontakt 7, maybe it requires more resources that the previous version .. I was plaining to upgrade the memory on my laptop to 16G, so maybe this will help.. Thanks for the replies
Noel Borthwick
If you do the same test in Cbb does it crackle?
Max Arwood
I just upgraded to K7. It is the worst version I have ever used, and my first version of contact didn’t have any numbers on it lol. I only bought it because one of the sample libraries I bought required that version, and version eight was not out yet. I was mad because 8 came out after I just bought 7. They would not offer any discounts! I think they have fixed the slow loading and other problems.

That being said, I have used K7 on a few projects without any issues....
