Solved!! "Audio" folder becomes "read-only"

ot ouss

Question

When I save the project with new file name, sometimes attached message pops up.
This does not happen frequently but surely does.
Does anyone have similar experience and know why it happens?
My solution is
- Rename "Audio" folder to "Audio1"
- Create new "Audio" folder
- Copy all files in "Audio1" folder back to new "Audio"
Now I can save the project with new name.

I guess something my operation could cause this problem but I have no clue.

Thank you for your support in advance.

Maybe just maybe it's like this?

It just happened to me too but...
A few years ago I remember reading, a warning about moving & copying stuff or messing around in the "project folders" since it might confuse Cakewalk.
Maybe they solved this by not allowing any tampering with the content in the "project folders" once you've created them via Cakewalk.
My solution is to save it as a new song and add "V2.1" or whatever, and let Cakewalk create a new folder with your new version of your song.
That way you keep them separated & doesn't risk editing stuff associated with your original song.
Sure you lose some HDD/SSD space, but I think it's worth it to stay safe.

Have a nice day 👍

I've got this same exact problem now - it has happened several times in the last few weeks. I want to "save a copy" of my project, then get the error that the folder is read only.

If I go to the folder in question and then change it to uncheck "read only" and hit apply, then it is *immediately* (literally before I can do anything) reverted back to read only again. So something is changing it back to read only. Super annoying.

Edit: Ironically, I actually can save it TO the audio folder if I want, then manually move them back into the regular project folder.

Similar notifications occur when I don't have "permission" to save to a certain folder.  Windows locks many folders for security reasons so when I need to save to  one, I right-click > Properties and give myself permission.  Critical folders should be left as is, tho.  Don't ask how I know.
