Terry Carroll
I wrote the song "Lies" about someone I knew during my childhood, someone I once looked up to and admired deeply. As a young kid, he seemed like the kind of person you’d want to model yourself after—someone who seemed to know more about the world, who had a maturity and confidence I hadn't yet developed. He was nine years older than me, and in my youthful naivety, I couldn't see the real person behind the façade he projected. I idolized him, thinking he could do no wrong, and that blinded me to the truth of who he truly was. But as I grew older and gained more life experience, the truth started to unravel. I began to see things for what they really were. The person I thought was wise and trustworthy was actually someone who had manipulated my innocence and inexperience. It became clear that he wasn’t deserving of the admiration I had once so freely given. In fact, he took advantage of my trust, using my naivety for his own benefit in ways I couldn't understand at the time. This painful realization—that someone I had once respected had deceived me—became the foundation for writing this song. "Lies" explores the emotions of betrayal, disappointment, and the feeling of being let down by someone you once thought was a role model. It’s a reflection of the journey from blind admiration to the harsh understanding that not everyone who appears admirable has your best interests at heart. https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/terrycarroll/lies Cheers, Terry
