Cakewalk / EZDrummer 2 issue

Recommended Posts

I have a puzzling situation with Cakewalk & EZ Drummer 2 that I can't figure out... It's some sort of disconnection between the two...

For my projects...

EZD track is a soft synth type of track.
Input = All External Inputs - Omni*
Output = Master
In Synth Rack view, EZ Drummer is there

*This varies. For two separate projects that are working fine, one is set as indicated above, but on another it is set to MIDI Omni of my I/O interface. Changing it to pretty much any of the number of options that appear in the menu doesn't seem to make a difference; it works fine regardless.

For most of my projects:
- When I view EZ drummer within Cakewalk and play the song, I'll see the visualizations of the drums being hit as the song plays.
- If I manually strike one of the drums, I can both hear the drum sound and see the visualization.
- If I change the kit in EZ drummer (within Cakewalk), the visualization and sound of new kit will be reflected when the song plays.

However, for some projects:

When I view EZ drummer within Cakewalk and play the song, I do NOT see the visualizations of the drums being hit as the song plays even though I'm hearing the drums.
If I manually strike one of the drums, I can hear the drum sound but I do NOT see the visualization.
If I change the kit in EZ drummer (within Cakewalk), the visualization and sound of new kit will NOT be reflected when the song plays.

So something is amiss, but I can't figure it out... Happy to provide more info if anyone thinks of anything...

Thanks in advance.

It's probably something to do with the graphic card. I use EZD 3 now only and converted old projects from EZD 2. Everything works better much more options and patterns and also visualizations rarely have any issues. It is absolutely worth the upgrade.

I use a Sonar newest version as well I am not sure if you are using Cakewalk or Sonar. You might need to do the search for graphic card settings overlay etc.

Best regards

It seems to me that in the projects that do not behave as expected there must be another instrument that your midi is routed to and that is what you are hearing. Check that you do not have another virtual instrument or instance of one instantiated.

Are you using a drum map?  If you are open the drum map in the drum map manager and make sure that it is pointing to the correct VI

No, it's definitely not coming from another instrument. I can go to the Synth Rack and mute EZD and the drums no longer are heard...

Nope, not using drum maps.

Yes, "Follow Host" on EZD is selected.

The update is that despite not doing anything other sleeping (me, not the machine 😉 ) and relaunching Cakewalk - which I did many times yesterday - when I play the project/song in question now, the visualization and everything else seems to be working just fine. I don't have much confidence that the issue is resolved - IOW, I think this is temporary and it will reappear, but it is what it is. I will report back if anything changes.

I appreciate all the responses, fellas!

I  had some corrupted tracks in older projects. They just wouldn't behave properly like volume levels, routing or some synths had issues.

The solution I have found is to create a new track with the same synth or and virtual instrument, fx etc. (not duplicate but from fresh start).
In extreme cases even creating new project and redo/copy everything.

Still consider getting EZD 3, I have really no issues with it and use it in every project multiple times.
