Is there a way to send a bus/aux to itself?

Recommended Posts

I'm wanting to experiment with feedback synthesis, so I want to send an aux to itself. It looks like Cakewalk has a safeguard for this, since the aux I'm creating the send from doesn't show up in the drop down menu when I go to create the send.

Any way to disable this safeguard?

Not to my knowledge. While in the digital realm, positive feedback loops are not necessarily destructive (although they can be), in the output realm, and particularly to hearing, they can be catastrophic (why interlocks and limiters are commonly used). Without dampening in a system or a negative feedback loop to counter it, a positive feedback loop is always going to ramp to the system limit... the only real variable is how quickly it does so.

Is it possible to do what you are seeking as a side-chain input?

I'm pretty sure I used Blue Cat Audio's Connector to implement Eno's shimmer verb. The feedback had both an octave and delay, so I went to another track and then back, but I don't think there's anything preventing you from connecting two instances in the same track.
