If your a fixer-upper you will save on shipping with the first few orders.

I had it for a year. Started to renew but held off. Glad I did!!

I didn't get the text because I opted out after my membership expired at the end of last year.
I just went to their website
https://www.stewmac.com/stewmax-1-year-membership/
I saw this:

1-YEAR MEMBERSHIP
REGULAR $59.95 NOW ONLY $29.98
LIMITED TIME OFFER ENDS JULY 30, 2024 @ 4:00PM ET

Don't know if this deal is only available to previous members (which I am) or everyone.
I definitely got my monies worth from my membership while I had it.

This deal is still active but not for long!

Picked up a new Fender Squire last year that had a crappy fret job (sharp ends, bending notes felt like I was grinding metal).
If I hadn't gotten it for such a killer price I would have returned it.
Picked up and used StewMac's Rough Fret Smooth + Shine Set
now the frets are smooth like butter.

This is definitely something to consider if you have a "slug" of things that need to be purchased within a year, and is even offered when you make a purchase (saves on that initial purchase as well) so can have a year to figure out what you may need in the coming months. This hit me with the LP kit I got a few years ago, and was a net savings for me with the membership.

The reason I say this wasn't directly mentioned above... StewMac rakes you over the coals for shipping/handling otherwise, so if you have a slug of goodies needed for the year (including that initial purchase), it can pay itself off. It is very similar to Amazon Prime in that regard... if you are buying often, the free shipping adds up... if you get a one-off every 8 months, it probably won't be worth it. I had let mine expire after that LP kit was completed, but I got all of the replacement hardware I wanted before it ran out.

I have those tools too. That little file is really good. It doesn't take much presure to get that thing to bite. After about 5-6 fret jobs I have done, I am starting to get the hang of it. What use to take me hours now only takes 30-40 minutes. And the results are much better than that first fret job!!

I level the frets first. I start with 600 grit. But have used 400 grit once. When I get the frets level I then come back with 800,1200 grit to take the groves of the 600 grit out of the frets. Then I have a set of the fret erasers (200, 400, 800) and go over every fret with those. Then I come back with the "Touch Up Stick" using all three grits it has. When I am finished, my frets are polished, and feel great. I have done almost all my guitars that way.

Yes, for me too. I am still getting stuff from StewMac. I know they are more expensive than some stuff you find on other sites (Amazon, Etsy, Ali) but in almost every case that I tried to get the cheap stuff I ended up springing for the better stuff from StewMac. That "Fret End Dressing File" is a great example. None of the cheap ones compare to it. It works extremely well, once you learn how to use it!

@mettelus Man you wouldn't believe all the stuff I been through since we last spoke!!

Hey Grem, looks good. Every time I see a clean flat piece of wood I think "laser engraver" now. The perspective in that last picture makes the headstock so huge it looks like a body blank!

You should post updates on those builds. There are more folks than just me interested in projects like that. It is music-related too and doesn't mention any DAWs, so you are safe ?

Yeah I will start a thread in the coffee house. Something like Smallstone is doing with his studio build.
