What would be the purpose of loops if you can't change the key or tempo?

Question

What would be the purpose of loops if you can't change the key or tempo? Would loops just be used to create music that does not include vocals?

Thank you in advance for any help,

yeto

May want to read up on Groove Clips.

After looking at this I see where if the loop was recorded in C and you wanted to change it to D that that would be possible but what if you wanted the loop to be a Dm or Dm7 or something of that nature? I don't think it would work.

For audio clips, you can change the pitch and tempo of the clip but you cannot go into the clip and change a major to a minor. At least not without additional software. This can be done with tools like Melodyne Editor and Studio (the lesser versions cannot work with polyphonic data) and in real time with products like Zynaptic Pitchmap. For this type of application MIDI is much more flexible.
