[SOLVED] Grove Quantize PRV - Only Copy VELOCITY

sadicus

Question

What are a few ways to only copy Velocity and paste as a repeating pattern?
MIDI notes are all in place, just want to apply the velocity to all other notes.

HOW TO ONLY COPY VELOCITY (solved by @Promidi)
PRV - Grove Quantize

  1. Select and copy the notes containing the source velocities to the clipboard.
  2. Select the destination notes you want to apply the velocities to
  3. In PRV Right Click Menu > Grove Quantize .  Set Velocity Strength to 100%. (set Time and Duration to 0%).
  4.  Click Audition to test the settings (The settings will be temporarily applied)

Velocity is part of the Note On message and can't be manipulated independently. But what you can do is add a Clip Envelope for MIDI Velocity [Offset], create three nodes to offset the next three fixed-velocity notes to achieve the desired values, and copy-paste the three nodes as needed to affect the rest of the  notes. You can leave the Vel+ envelope in place to preserve editing flexibility or Bounce to Clip to write the velocity offsets into the note events.

EDIT: Looks like I was wrong about this. The MIDI clip automation cannot be copy-pasted independently of the notes, either.

If you want to apply the same velocity to all notes: Select all notes. Change velocity in Event Inspector.

If you want to apply random velocities to a group of notes:  Use a draw tool and simply drag it across the top of the velocity tails in the cc pane.  Or run VARYVEL CAL script.

If you want a repeating velocity pattern:  Create a group of notes with the pattern.  Right-click clip and select Groove-Clip Looping.  Extend the end of the clip as far as you want.

Grove Quantise can do this

Select and copy the notes containing the source velocities to the clipboard.

Select the destination notes you want to apply the velocities to

Go Menu > Grove Quantise .  Set Velocity Strength to 100%. (Maybe set Time and Duration to 0%).

Click Audition to test the settings (The settings will be temporarily applied)

If happy with the results, click OK

How does setting a group of same values like velocity to 100% change them to random values?

It's not random, it uses the velocities of the selection you specify as the Groove reference, and applies them at the specified strength. 100% means the reference velocities will completely overwrite the existing velocities.
