daryl1968
Hi forum folks Here's a new song that I co-wrote with Patty Lakamp (lyrics) and has James Griffiths playing on guitar. Lyrics below link The Next Level © 2019 Lyrics by Patty Lakamp Music by Daryl Greenway Performed by Staypress Guitar by James Griffiths @jyemz V1 I’m happy with my girlfriend But we have a looming issue Just what is this Next Level She wants to take us to? V2 I’m really only guessing Cuz it’s hard for me to picture And what is it exactly She wants me to deliver Chorus The dreaded Next Level Scares me half to death She’s got me unsettled And out of my depth I’m not sure what I’m s’posed to do All she said is Something New I hope it's not too stressful That dreaded Next Level Instr. Break V3 She has these expectations I might need a refresher I really don’t want to lose her, but I don't perform well under pressure Chorus The dreaded Next Level Scares me half to death She’s got me unsettled And out of my depth I’m not sure what I’m s’posed to do All she said is Something New I hope it's not too stressful That dreaded Next Level Instr. Break Bridge How many levels are there? And what comes after this? And what does she expect of me? And what if I resist? And why can’t we just stay right here? I like the way it is Chorus The dreaded Next Level Scares me half to death She’s got me unsettled And out of my depth I’m not sure what I’m s’posed to do All she said is Something New I hope it's not too stressful That dreaded Next Level It sounds experimental That dreaded Next Level 3
Wookiee
What does the current Mrs Daryl think about this? Nicely done chaps, cool production, nice playing

Old Joad
I love the way the vocal starts the song, I'm going to steal that from you? great song, great harmony . all around awesome.
AndyB01
You see, I read those lyrics cold and I thought: hmm - good luck making this work. Then I listened and not only does it work, it does so brilliantly - with superb flair and craft. I particularly like the hard stop after the instrumentals. Oh and one more thing - the mix - as tight as a drum. Terrific stuff - never stop writing. Andy
Jesse Screed
This reminds me of when I was 17. How many levels are there? There is always at least one more level past where you decide to turn back. 1
David Sprouse
How is that dear old man James Griffiths? Just watched a documentary on the rise and fall of the clash. Rock the Hasbeen. Liked the song. The reverb is kind of weird on headphones, Is it a small room? Your style is quixotic. David Sprouse
I looked it up and that's definitely NOT what I meant to say. I thought it meant something along the lines of quirky or unexpected and optimistic. My memory is getting worse. Sorry for the mistaken shade. Though I am not such at ease with english language , I allways get a kind of smile when I am hearing your songs. Thanks for sharing. The definition I saw made total sense - I am a bit over optimistic at times - like a labrador
jerrydf
Nice clean, fresh sound. A quirky arrangement for a quirky ltric. Good sound. It's almost a Nick Lowe type of song (which is good), even some of your pronunciation in places is a bit Lowe-ish. jdf
Leizer
This is fantastic Daryl. Perfection from arrangement to mix. 10+/10 and the only tiny thing I can find to remark on is the upbeat of the last tambourine hit. But you probably wanted it that way... ? And I love those guitar fills by James!
Bajan Blue
Hi Daryl I like this - really reminds me of The Bonzo Dog Do Dah Band - used to love Viv Stanshall and once even saw Roger Ruskin Spears kinetic Wardrobe (or something like that) It was very strange and certain substances were obligatory to enjoy fully (beer of course???) , but there you go, the old days!! Great stuff Nigel

freddy j
A very clean, fresh sound indeed! It does have kind of a Sgt. Pepper-ish feel to it (that is a complement). The lyrics are very clever and the music has a bit of a cheeky flavour that matches the lyrics perfectly. Of course, the performance, vocals/harmonies, and mix are excellent.
DeeringAmps
I've been back to listen 3 times ( and thought it had a Beatleish vibe as well. Someone mentioned Ringo). Classic Daryl performance (I jumped on the Forum Monkeys link to refresh, of course regulars here are all familiar). Daryl keeps the bar high for the rest of us... Tom The Do Dah Dog Band, now that's a blast from the past.
Hidden Symmetry
Enjoyed this Daryl, reminded me of the Rutles. Well written & clever, quite the cheeky monkey.
