What do the stars and bullets at the titles of the threads mean?

Just wondering.

The stars mean "you contributed to this thread". The bullets, if you click them, takes you to your first unread post. 

I think.

They both do that. Hover your mouse over both and ypu see the hint popup "go to the first unread post"

Stars are for the Sheriffs, the bullets are what they use to keep us in line? ?
