System to System

I decided to write a reggae song and failed miserably, but I think it works anyway. Despite the fact that the melody is kind of high for my voice, it's in the key of Bm, certainly the most interesting of all keys. :)

Please let me know if you hear any problems, mix, instruments, musical choices, whatever you like.

By the way, I'm now officially a fan of Wave's Abbey Road plugs.

Update: I've made some suggested mods to vocal levels, and also linked to the soundcloud version which is the full wav file.

Lyrics for those of a lyrical mind:

system to system

verse 1

no it's not like a thing
that was broken but
is fixed now

nor is it hard like a
rock or cement in
the black ground

nor some tool you can
hold to fix all
the pain now

more a thickness of throat
that drives us to burn everything
down

but as you contemplate
what might become of all of us

and consider the consequences
impending  for all

you might come to vanquish
that which infects your mind

and all this time
will not have been for naught

verse 2

no its not all the things that are
sought that will soothe them

its' the hole in the heart
that will forever consume them

and the choices they make
that will always blind them

and the systems they make
that they use to excuse them

but as we contemplate
the things we do to all of us

and ignore all the outcomes we see
that naturally fall

we might never vanquish
that which infects our minds

and all of this time
will have been for naught

Finale

system to system
time after time
circles in cirlces
take what you like

motion for motion
and eye for an eye
system to system
system to system

Firstly IMO it's a really great song .. I think I could listen to your work all day long and still not have enough, you have a unique talent and although this is not your usual  vibe , I think you nailed it .. it's got a bit of Peter Gabriel in there and so to take that as a crit I feel the vocal should be a lot more prominent ... great stuff mate

Thank you, Steve, I am utterly humbled and grateful for your kind works. I pushed the vocals up a bit and replaced the link with a soundcloud link, seems like the mp3 is pretty muddy to my ear, gotta fix that.

What a great sounding piece, lots of evolution to keep the interest . . . the vocal in this one reminiscent of a Peter Gabriel sound to my ear, just great stuff, and thoroughly enjoyed beginning to end !

Thanks for taking a listen. I appreciate it!

Yeah I like the vibe and style of this track, Kevin.  Really nice work. Pulled me in immediately and wouldn't let go.  Very cool effects and chord progressions. More of this!

Thanks! I'll sure try, but don't wait up. My signal to crap ratio is pretty stable. :)

Very creative arrangement, great song. Agree with the Peter Gabriel comparison, that was the first thing I thought before reading the comments, not bad to be compared to his work.

Thank you for listening and I am  very happy that you and othes like it enough to say things like that.  I appreciate you listening!
