Robert Hale Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 At 3 minutes, you show the buffer slider. But my screen doesn't show that section as active. What should I do? Change devices?
Robert Hale Posted April 20, 2023 Author Posted April 20, 2023 oh my gosh, you're right. Sorry. watching https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vArFTYlAvDk EDIT>>PREFERENCES PLAYBACK AND RECORDING my sliders are not active.
Bruno de Souza Lino Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 If you're using WASAPI Shared, you cannot change the buffer size. 1
Lynn Wilson Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 If you're using ASIO drivers, the sliders don't respond. Use the ASIO control panel.
Robert Hale Posted April 22, 2023 Author Posted April 22, 2023 One YouTube I watched suggested buffer slilder to the left for recording, slider to the right for playback. But using Wasapi I don't have that option?
John Vere Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 (edited) That's all bad information. The first video you posted above immediately lost me when he said you don't need to do anything if your using on board audio??? This is why I made videos.. https://youtu.be/z3UnPHn6J3Y Edited April 22, 2023 by John Vere 1

But using Wasapi I don't have that option? There are two WASAPI driver modes in CbB. WASAPI Shared relies on Windows to set the audio buffer size to share among all the software using the driver. CbB does not control this setting. WASAPI Exclusive uses the Mixing Latency Buffer Size slider in CbB preferences.
Bruno de Souza Lino Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 I'd avoid using WASAPI Exclusive mainly because that buffer slider is almost useless. You can't easily get to the most used sample values (64, 128, 256, etc.), can't manually type the value and the fine control for it is going one sample unit at a time without any form of acceleration if you hold the fine control.

If you want multiple apps to have access to the device you're using to access CbB, then you use Shared. Otherwise, Exclusive gives you more control over the latency samples and also allows you to use multiple devices at the same time.
