Help Newbie No sound from Midi Keyboard

I had Cakewalk working for about a week and it was fantastic.  It stopped working and I have been about two weeks trying everything to fix it.  My Irig keys, no longer triggers the VST's, nor does the virtual keyboard or the computer keypad.  I have tried everything that I can find online.  the green bars rise to show that it is getting input from the keyboard, but nothing is triggered in the VST's.   Even clicking on the VST keys produces no sound.  I have tried reinstalling about 6 times and no luck.  

Now, out of the blue, on startup, I get "There are no audio devices for the current driver model on yoiur system go to Edit Preferences and choose a different driver model".  I have and nothing works.

At my wit's end and after two weeks, I am just about ready to call it quits.  Just figured that I would try this one last request for help.

First problem seems like a matter of choosing the right input and output on the tracks, these are well explained in the tutorials here above.

Regarding the new error message:

• Do you have an external audio device (preferred!) or are you using an onboard sound device that came with the motherboard?

It appears to be working now.  Thanks again for the help.
