I created a project with a sampling rate of 44100 and buffer size of 256. Now I want to change the sampling rate to 48000. I've gone into preferences, made the change but the audio configuration in the tool bar still reads 44100.  If I try to play a track I get an error screen stating "device may not support current project's audio format...."  . What's going on here?

Projects get their sample rate one of two ways:

  1. if the project contains no audio clips, the sample rate is read from the Sampling Rate entry in Preferences > Audio > Driver Settings
  2. If the project contains audio, the sample rate is read from one of the audio clip headers.

Here are the instructions on how to change the sample rate of a project containing audio clips.

thanks, and wow, it's a lot of steps when audio tracks are involved. Better to get the rate right the first time than to have to export, then import into a new project.
