(Not a deal) Delarrified

Is how I feel. On one hand there’s more peace and quiet due to the lack of a zillion deals waiting to be checked. On the other I’m often feeling I’m missing out on some incredibly worthwhile ones, never to see the light of day as the man isn’t here to find them. Don’t know what’s worse, though ;)

OMG - Black Friday is not far off. We won’t even know it’s happening this year!

Sign up to your favourite developers' newsletters. Your inbox might get overloaded, but you'll know if they're having a sale. Depending on who it is, you might (or might not) get a small discount on your first purchase as a bonus.

So what happened? I saw a locked thread with a newbie giving Larry some bs but other than that I'm left wondering.

Bill

Nobody really knows, but that BS was probably the final straw. However every time we start speculating why, the mods lock the thread so it's pointless to discuss.

One of the mods stated that Larry is free to return when/if he feels like it. :)

I'd say the best alternative strategy is joining that Facebook group Larry and I are in. He reposted a lot of his deals from that group. But what he did better than anyone I know of was provide additional discount codes and sales from developers that don’t use affiliate marketing. However,  that group and the music software deals site  guy that post here doesn't share the codes or a lot of the deals from smaller devs because they're focused on making commissions off of your sale. They only show you deals where they get a kickback and exclude the codes and developers that don't give them a kickback.

So what you are saying is that we will probably save more money now that we don't know about those extra deals. ?

Or maybe, just maybe, this is a sign for us to stop hoarding and start making music.

Wow. Spot on. This could be an inflection point for many. I actually find Christian's post asking people to give their opinions about great specific types of libraries some of the most valuable threads I've seen in this forum. Yes, I've often fallen to GAS, but more than anything there's so many sample libraries and plugins out there that getting some insights from uncompensated fellow musicians who aren't influencers shilling for affiliate dollars, that's invaluable and also a great time saver. Maybe without Larry obsessively posting deals the  character of this forum is changing. I'd love to see those great deal posts again, but Christian's threads getting so many people chiming in with their experience and insights, IMO, bring an even greater level of value to this forum, as it helps us to discern the best options out of a sea of choices.

As I said in another thread somewhere, I find there has been a silver lining to recent events, for me the following is all that is needed, with this sub forum becoming less and less relevant,

https://www.reddit.com/r/AudioProductionDeals/

https://musicsoftwaredeals.com/?manufacturer=&price_from=0&price_to=303&sale_only=true

https://plugindeals.net/plugin-reseller-price-check/

https://www.audiopluginguy.com/deals/

I likely wouldn't have stumbled on to these sites had these recent events not occurred, and just stayed in my stagnated ways. Purely from a deals point of view, personally I have found the combination of these sites to be superior to this subforum, prior or post said events. In terms of sheer volume of plugins purchased over the last month or so, at excellent prices, and plugs relevant to me, there is no contest. The ability to target what you want easily is another plus.

I still visit here, mainly just to read a little, not necessarily for deals, and as I'm not a Cakewalk user, and haven't been since 2015, my only reason for visiting seems to be slowly slipping away ? . It's been a long ride, I seem to remember every now and then Larry would go 'missing' for a time on the old forums, with various reasons proffered by the members as to why ?

It is what it is, make hay while the sun shines.?

Personally I don't mind if any of these sites make money from this, they are providing a service, and a damn good one, good luck and more power to 'em.

Dunno. Got a sinking feeling diving into sites like these. Guess I’m the kind of guy who needs curated offers, brought to me by a natural. That’s it, I need a natural curator.
