band lab not playing vsts

Please help, I am desperate. I can load VST tracks into a sequence. When I play the external keyboard the instrument makes no sound. If I do a recording on that track and then play it back, the instrument sounds. My keyboards work on record and playback so the hardware is all good. I can use Sample Tank as a stand alone and it works. But wont work in Cakewalk.  Does this make any sense to anybody?

Try enabling "Input Echo" the button right of Record in the instrument/MIDI track header.
