I've never understood to use for phrase-based instruments. Do I have to search around for the phrase that is closest to what I want? That seems rather limiting. I assume the phrases are at a fixed BPM. How much different can my tempo be before the phrase sounds funny? I think I would get very frustrated with this. Can I still play any random melody?

There are separate Kontakt instruments for both instruments (so yes), and a third for the phrases.

I think of phrases as hiring a session musician. It's also incredibly creative to play - the tonality key switches really add a lot of flexibility.

I have had some fun and interesting results using sample phrases by converting them to midi in melodyne and making some changes and then using the midi on some other vst instrument other than the one it began as. Some turn into things i like that i would not have thought of
