Volume envelope not normal

Whenever I added a automation volume or pan envelope, it would be a gradual increase or decrease. Now, when I choose to add a volume node, it only goes at a 90 degree angle.  How did this happen and how can I stop it?  I cannot use it this way,

Right-click the envelope to change the curve.
