Also , If you change your snap to grid setting to something like 1/64 you can usually find a good spot between notes to cut your clip. The aim assist will show you exactly where it is on the timeline for pasting. This also helps with retaining pickup notes.    ms

CTRL W toggles the  playback ( spacebar)  between stop in place and return to the place you started.
